Well, I just used undecided as a catch-all phrase. You couldn't pick one above the other, so I just put it that way. Sorry Doctor J

Impossible to call as both incredible however Jimi got there first so he gets the vote.

consider what would have happened had Jimi not risen to prominence in the late 60's ...... what would the rock music landscape look like now? Where would Zeppelin, Sabbath, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, etc etc have been?

Page was doing the psychedelic guitar hero stuff in the Yardbirds pre-Zep anyway. You're also discounting the enormous influence of Pete Townshend (where do you think Hendrix got his guitar-smashing and love of extreme volume from? Plus Townshend was pretty much the first on the block with the pscych rock, like Armenia City in the Sky from Who Sell Out). Also, don't forget Clapton and Jeff Beck.

Zep produced a huge back catalogue, the vast majority of which was classic. Hendrix wasn't quite as prodigious in his output, and the signs were there before he snuffed it that he was going off the boil a bit. Band of Gypsies were no match for Noel Reading and Mitch Mitchell imo.

    So Zep for me also.

"Seppelin.Hendrix was overhyped crap." - man what an idiot.

Anyway, yeah, id go with zeppelin myself. just cause as a band i prefer listening to them. but hendrix was a better guitarist than page.

Well tbh the floyd were around a long time before zeppelin, the syd barrett days were early 60's so i wouldnt think zeppelin were much of an influence on them. Sorry, im pedantic, i know :D
Hendrix was undoubtedly the most innovative guitarist since django reinhart (sp?), but id go with zeppelin over jimi just for the simple fact i listen to zeppelin more than i would hendrix

Apart from the fact that, that song was totally ripped off from a Blues musician, I'm going to say Zeppelin. They wrote better songs.

There is no doubt that Hendrix was a guitar god. But he never really wrote songs that appealed to me. He didn't seem a consistant writer of good music.

I prefer Sabbath and Thin Lizzy to the two of them though.

hah -that made me laugh.. anyway..

playing with ur teeth is really cool.. watchtower anyone? -the greatest cover of that song, perhaps even better than the original, and in my book thats saying something. i think u should write that down in urs as well.

but stink -kashmir just takes me away, stairway to heaven? fool in the rain, tangerine.. all of my love.. when the levee breaks.. so on and so forth..

shame that jimi's life was cut much too short, but if i had to listen to one or the other -id choose zeppy baby, don't know -gives me more variety, and i like that -but happily i can still listen to both =P

Tough call man jeez... I'm gonna have to say Zep just cos I can actually play some Led Zeppelin songs reasonably ... ;)

No seriously though I think Led Zeppelin have a much wider variety than Hendrix cos a lot of Jimi Hendrix's stuff was jam sessions and the like so Zeppelin are a lot more accessable...

Plus c'mon... Going To California and Immigrant Song... two of the best songs ever no?

    You speak of Robert Johnson?

They basically ripped the Lemon Song from Travelling Riverside Blues and then they covered TRB on Coda... man that Robert Johnson fella was pretty good... sold his soul to the devil for his guitar skills apparently
