Well, since there's Best Film Awards going on over at the Films Boards. I thought i'd take the initiative and ask everyone what their favourite album of the year has been? It can be 1 album or a couple.

My favourite albums of the year:
    - The Killers - 'Hot Fuss'
    - Green Day - 'American Idiot'
    - Garden State OST
    - Snow Patrol 'Final Straw'
    - Jimmy Eat World - 'Futures

    My honorable mentions:
    - Razorlight - 'Out All Night'
    - U2 - 'How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb'
    - Keane 'Hopes & Fears'
    - Ash - 'Meltdown'

My worst albums of the year:
    - The Thrills - 'Let's Bottle Bohemia'
    - Fatboy Slim - 'Palookaville'

    Hot fuss.

Also, if John Frusciante condensed his prodigious output this year into one album it would be top of my list for sure.

The choices on this forum are deadly. Must be said. BUT.. No room for Modest Mouse. Good News for People who love Bad News. SO SO SO good. And I know there isn't an album yet but one to get for next year which I cant wait for is Bloc party. These guys blow me away. And Playing in Whelans for €13.00 in January. Great.

Was the Postal Service's album out this year or last?

People should go check it out anyway. Absolute classic.

No! No! No! - it's the worst Distillers album there is - listen to Sing Sing Death House.

Personally - I think these albums need mentioning:

    Rammstein - Reise Reise
    Cradle of Filth - Nymphetamine
Alison Krauss - Lonely Runs Both Ways

    Overall - 2004 wasn't a patch on 2003 - very disappoininting musical output...

I'm amazed to actually have found someone else who knows about The Postal Service.

Utter genius of an album! Which reminds me, i'd also add their album 'Give Up' to my Best Of The Year.

'Give Up' was actually released in February of last year though. I only heard it at the start of Summer.

I've bought very little new music this year that I've liked all that much, just bought old albums by people I hadnt heard-the best of which was Jeffrey Lewis's two albums.

The worst album of 2004 is undoubtedly The Frames Burn The Maps-which I'm not happy about cause I used to think they were fairly ok.

    Best - The Killers.

Worst. U2 - a band past their best before date. Sounded good at first listen but went pretty stale after a week.

    Trills were disappointing.

The Cure was a re-awakening to that band.

& Hopefully The Frank And Walters & Dave Couse will bring out a masterpieces in 2005.

    In no particular order!

    The best:
    Faithless - No Roots
The Streets – A Grand Don’t Come For Free
    Killers – Hot Fuss
    Jay-Z - The Black Album
Gwen Stefani - Love.Angel.Music.Baby (well half are good tracks)
Chemical Brothers - Push The Button
RJD2 - Since We Last Spoke
alot more I can't think of off hand

There are a alot of crap albums, but these were most disapointing:
Xzibit - Weapons Of Mass Destruction
    D12 - World
    Eminem - Encore
    generally alot of rap :(
