Those dumb asses in UCD have shut down SIS the only way to get exams outside of UCD that means I can't get any exams. If anyone is in UCD right now and can get exams for me from here http://www.ucd.ie/exams/html/papers/index.html please PM me and help me get my exam papers!!!! PLEASEEE I'll tell you my exam codes (all computer science ones) and if u could just zip them and send them to my gmail address (I'll give it to u). IT WOULD BE WONDERFUL. I doubt anyone is in UCD right now but if anyone is please help me!

offler - are you in 4th comp sci?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 218 ✭✭Haruspex

Offler, as Cork_girl says, I'm sure hard copies must exist in the Library. I can't believe that the electronic versions are the only ones out there. Going on my NUI Galway experience we had large bound volumes of exam papers divided into years in the main library. Just about managed to get mine yesterday from SIS before the system went offline. Could they not have done this post-exams?
    Best of luck anyway!

I don't know....it takes me 2 hours to get into UCD and I can't really do any study there inside the library because most of my notes come from the web so I need to be at home in front of a computer, do they let you borrow them? - I doubt it. I can't understand why they would choose now to take down the bloody database, it's like they planned it to cause maximum problems.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,581 ✭✭✭uberwolf

I may have teh 4th comp sci past papers on my archived pendrive stuff in my office. I'll be back there this afternoon and check. Obviuosly won't include the ones I sat in the summer - but it'll be the majority of them.

The SIS site is down for a week for a scheduled upgrade. The week before exams start. Good timing guys!!!!!

If you need an exam number for an exam starting at 9:30 on Monday (as I did) ring the admin office, but be quick because it closes at 2:30 today (Friday) That's in two hours time.

Em, ok I'm not from UCD but I happened to be passing by...

What I do to access college pages which can only be accessed from with in college is change the proxies. I have a seperate Mozilla downloaded - you say you can only access it from within college? Then this might work.

At home, open this page : http://www.ucd.ie/computing/support/posters/internetie.pdf

Go through it piece by piece, temporarily changing the settings so that you're going off the UCD proxies. Then attempt to access the exam papers. It works for me accessing certain Trinity pages at home, and might work for yourself also.

If not, best of luck getting your papers.

Na Ace it doesn't seem to work I'm surprised Trinity lets you away with doing that, oh well thanks for the help anywaysmile.gif

Just got an email back from Computer Services. (Man that was suprisingingly quick.)

    This is what it said:

    Hi Rory,

The SIS system is down from the 9th to the 14th of December. Regarding your examination number, once you
bring your student card to the exam the exam number will be issued to you there.

If you have any other queries please contact SIS on 716 1713

Looks like it might have been planned downtime. I'll ask them that.

it was in fairness. Advertised on teh SIS site for the last fortnight. The reason you got a quick response is prob related to the length of time it'll take them to do teh work. Sitting around doing nothin...

It's still a terrible time to do it and their website (http://ucd.ie/itucd) doesn't mention it. :(

Yes, ever noticed that the only system that NEVER goes down is the OPAC/TALIS mainframe that they have in the Library - and guess why's the reason? It's 'cos Computer Services don't run that one - hence the only time it's ever down is for database maintainance and it's usually not even as long as the advetised amount of time. Thank god Comp Services don't run it!

    Hang on hang on!

I've never heard anything about exam cards needing to be printed and I've exams this christmas. This is obviously some stupid new moneysaving thing.

Where are/were these cards? Under your SIS a/c?

    *confused*

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,038 ✭✭✭rob1891

    computing services suck anyway :P

I've just had a student ask me for grinds in a third year course, didn't realise the exam is in 10 friggin days!! Of course, I can't remember anything from third year, the notes aren't enough of a reminder and 10-day-away-study consists of learning-off-the-most-likely-exam-questions which I can't do without the papers

If you have time, email past.papers@ucd.ie and politely rant at them and then email the SU to find out what they are doing about it.

don't expect any results, hope everything is back on the 14th.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,865 ✭✭✭Syth

According to computer services the SIS is managed by Admin, not Computer services. So they aren't the ones in charge/to blame.

Bri, you have to print off your exam card from the SIS student web, it won't be posted out. Same for your exam timetable. However the site is down until tuesday. Hope you don't have an exam between now and then. (Of course you'd have to have printed off your exam timetable to know when your exams are...)

[edit] I emailed our education officer about this. No responce yet. [/edit]

Syth. Thanks for the reply. That's what I gathered just wanted it clarified (it's too late to ask anyone in UCD before the weekend)

Ah well, my exam is on the 20th so I'm ok I guess. :)

I've emailed them but I don't really expect much. I expect nothing actually. I have never gotten a reply out of these......."deep breath"......people.

It's OK me and my friend got some photos of some of the past papers so we are working with those until the 14thbiggrin.gif Not the best but better then nothing.

    Hey Offler,
Ring the Student Union, Im sure they can help you. They print up loads of past papers for people every year. 01-7160000 is the number for the UCD central switchboard, and then ask to be put through to the SU secretary or President or Education Officer.
Secondly, you could try and contact your Professors. They're bound to have some past papers on file on their computers, considering they're the ones who write them.
    Good luck! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,329 ✭✭✭OfflerCrocGod

The SU....it would involve going into UCD that takes me ages, sure at thise stage I'll muddle through with what I have. My professors probably wouldn't be bothered or wouldn't read the emails I've got some photos of papers and that should tie me over. I've really lost interest anywayfrown.gif I just want to finish college and never go near it again, as long as I pass - I've stopped caring.

    I've stopped caring.
