Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Who would put a bomb in the bernabeu? I don't think al qaeda or ETA would at the moment.

it took me awhile to figure out but the sky match isn't live. The game was almost over. Apparently they found a suspicious rucksack and the stadium was evacuated.

Spectators have been evacuated from Real Madrid's Bernabeu stadium following a bomb scare during the game between the hosts and Real Sociedad.

More than 70,000 people abandoned the ground with only two minutes left to play in the Spanish league game.

The Basque newspaper Gara apparently received a telephone call saying a bomb was due to explode at 2100 local time.

The Basque separatist group ETA has issued similar warnings before a series of small explosions in recent days.

Real Madrid's game with Real Sociedad was abandoned after 88 minutes because of a bomb alert in the Spanish capital.

The Santiago Bernabeu was evacuated after warnings of a possible blast came through.

It is understood that a bomb threat was made to a Basque newspaper - Gara, who immediately passed on the message that a device had been placed in the VIP area at The Bernabeu.

Around 70,000 fans were present in the ground, after the message from the Basque separatist group ETA came through - but everyone was evacuated within ten minutes without any major incident.

The match was halted with Real drawing 1-1 with Socidedad. Ronaldo had given them a first half lead before Nihat levelled late on.

    from bbc
The Bernabeu was targeted by ETA on 1 May, 2002, when Madrid were about to play FC Barcelona in a Champions League semi-final.

A car bomb exploded in a street outside the stadium and 17 people were slightly injured.

ETA have been planting bombs again recently all small ones clearly designed to cause disruption rather than damage...

    Mike.

Its a real pity that such a situation has to affect football. Thank god no one was injured and no one got involved in a hillsborough type disaster.

Good to see security dealt with the problem exceptionally. With that many people to evacuate it's great to hear that nobody was hurt and it was all kept in order.

Cynical as this is, with that little time left on the clock and Real Madrid only drawing, I wonder is it possible that some fanatic made the phonecall to the paper about the bomb scare to get that match abandoned. I wouldn't put it past an Ultra Sur to do something like that.

That is exactly what I was thinking...

Astonishingly they are going to finish the game off, at 6pm on January 5th. There's 2 minutes and 40 seconds left and 4 minutes of injury time. Both teams have agreed to play the remainder.

Will make for great TV if Sky have it!

Hundreds of fans streamed across the pitch on their way to the exits after the game was called off.

Tourists and fans took advantage of the opportunity for a photograph between the famous stadium's goalposts.

Worth being blown up for??
