According to an article in the Irish Times to-day the EU have informed the Government that they are going to investigates its building of the MANs. The EU feels there could be a conflict of interest here as the Government is also able to direct Comreg and so could negatively influence the competitive environment.

The Government were said to be surprised by this move as none of the Teleco's had complained to them, and they had also cleared the investment in the MAN's with the EU body respsonsible for competition.

No doubt Eircom are happy at this news as it is likely to slow down the rollout of the MAN's, at least until the issue is clarified.

You never mentioned the bit that Eircom themselves told Jamie and that Jamie mentioned at the very end.

Eircom complained to the EU to the effect that Comreg are NOT entitled to take Ministerial directives such as the EU 15 BB Average directive into account while they deliberate on their Wholesale BB Market Analysis ....or during any other Market analysis. Nor may Comreg delay said analysis unless the EU tells them too, what a palaver :(

Well, if you can get the government to change the laws of the land just so you can take a company over, why would you be worried about what Comreg is allowed to do?

Where's the SBP witha follow up on all the ESOT conniving I wonder. I hope they're not going to go all soft now they lost their editor.
