Well not withstanding whether Cullen did or didn't have a incorrect relationship with the PR Consultant that won that single tender for consultancy in the Dept of the Environment how the hell did he survive this complete and utter joke/farce of E-Voting.

It looks like these systems (which are based on PC's) will not be usable for the next election either. Not only should his political career be mothballed permanently but the civil servants who were involved with this at a senior level should be fired.

A complete and utter farce continues and still no one has been made responsible.
Extra time called to test electronic vote system

THE use of electronic voting for Ireland's referendum on the EU Constitution next autumn was thrown into doubt last night by a report from the Electronic Voting Commission.

The commission, which blocked e-voting for the local and European elections last June, makes it clear that it requires extra time for further investigations before it will be "in a position to satisfy itself as to the secrecy and accuracy of the system."

It says a definitive version of the software is needed before it can give its verdict while an independent review would also be needed, at least once if any changes are then made to the system.

The report also appears to scotch hopes of Environment Minister Dick Roche that electronic voting could be tried out again soon.

i still don't why so many countries refuse to implement a vvat, paper trailed evoting ?

i still get and occasionaly read that irish e-voting list

    this was sent today

    http://www.cev.ie/htm/report/first_report/pdf/Appendix%204-Part1.pdf

Nedap's main argument against VVAT seems to be that flaws should not be
discovered on election day, because that would shake voter confidence. Wow!

"An audit trail could only show that the event, identified as a risk occurs on
Election Day, but that is too late!! In our opinion every voting machine
should be designed, built and tested in accordance to the highest standards.
Lowering the standards cannot be compensated by any audit trail. Errors or
flaws detected during the election would shake voter.s confidence and are
    unacceptable."

I think it's largely down to fear of errors being exposed.

so this would expose errors like never before?

don't they get away with "errors" alredy would it be totally impossible fuge elections after vvat is introduced?

There are some errors, whether designed or not, in the system already. However they are not so fundamental as to create a crisis of confidence. Having -64157 (thats minus 64157) people vote in one balloting station would create an annoyance that might be correctable. If not correctable, you would have such a crisis. In theory, adding VVAT introduces the concept of something going wrong with the printer, a problem that wasn't there before hand. (Of course, having VVAT means that it operates as a checking mechanism, reducing the number of errors in the electronic system).
