    hi,

well depending on your age there could be a number of different areas to live.

Rather than age, probably more importantly - what's you're budget?
What will you be doing here? Uni or working? And where will you be doing either of these?

    Well, Im 23

Im going to belfast to start work as a trainee management consultant in the city centre.

My budget would be around £140-£190 per month for a room in a shared house.

Regarding religion, I'm Catholic like 93% of Irish people. I realy didnt think that mattered at all.

Try looking around at the student type accomodation near Queens University if you must live in the city centre. The Shankill Rd. is nearish so obviously you'd want to try not to get too close to there

I don't like to perpetuate the divide in the North but there's no point putting yourself through possible hassle when looking for somewhere to live. Avoid the working class type areas. Obviously, you'd avoid any areas which are overtly Loyalist in there appearance (flags, murals, red white and blue stuff going on, etc). Otherwise, you should be fine, the people of Belfast are generally some of the nicest and most polite people around.

    micmclo,
For that rent you're looking more towards student accommodation.
The 2 main decent places are Stranmillis (best) and the Lisburn Road (big-variety of poeple living there).

My advice: DON'T go near the Holylands at all.
If you drive, somewhere off the Ravenhill Road may be up your street.
Damn near access to the City Centre, about £180-£200 per month for a good house.

As I said, I'd stick around Stranmillis if I were you.
Nice area, as always, becareful with what's yours, always look after what's yours and have insurance.

Don't worry about the whole "religion" thing - in truth, that only affects residential families who have a history and who have moved into the wrong place and the wrong time.

    Ask more questions...

    S.

Im hoping to move to belfast, but i am clueless on how to go about it.. i am 20 years old, and any help would be really great.

i'm not sure weather to get a job first then a flat or other way around. As i live in the isle of man, it'll be tricky getting to interviews all the time! please help!!! thanks:)

I suppose living in Isle of Man will make it really difficult to attend interviews as you say. I think your best bet would be to earn a bit of cash to tide you over for a bit, move to Belfast and there are loads of agencies where you can get some sort of work for a few weeks until you get whatever it is you really want.

For checking out flats/househares, visit www.gumtree.com then click on Belfast. If you want any other advice feel free to PM me.

It depends what sort of job you want. The last thing you'd want to do is get a flat and then have no income.

Does the Isle of Man use the UK National Insurance scheme? If not, you'd need to get a National Insurance number. The issues are pretty much the same as if you were looking to move to elsewhere in the UK. There is, though a documnet which may help here:

Thankyou so much for your replys.
The isle of man does use the Uk national insurance sheme, which makes life alot easier.
the only thing i would have to sort out is my tax codes as the isle of man has totally different taxing laws, but i can sort that out before i go.

I have been very lucky in being asked to attend an interview for a job at Abbey at mays meadow, Antrim, which is the ideal job i would be wanting.
if i am succesful in this interview i would be moving over to belfast/ and needing a flat etc by the end of June.

so any advice or ideas to make this move easier and finding a place to live would be great.
Also another thing would be finding a doctor and dentist to register with.. any ideas on that would be really great thankyou again!!! :)

Do you mean May's Meadow, Belfast, County Antrim (rather than Antrim town which is north west of Belfast)?
    You mean here?

That is just across the road from Belfast Central railway station and it is in walking distance of the city centre. Try panning across on that map and you'll see!

    Registering with a doctor - see http://www.ehssb.n-i.nhs.uk/EBWEB.NSF/5954f0e08c333fe6802565d90030f531/239fba67a7aba976802566f1005f1946?OpenDocument#_Section1

Unlike Wales, there are no plans to phase out prescription charges, though the charges in NI are slightly less than England.

I think there might be something on dentists there too. I'm not sure whether there are that many NHS Dentists around these days.

Yeah, as above, that is May's Meadow in Belfast, opposite Central Station. That's handy for you as it will be dead easy to get to regardless whether you come in on the ferry or the plane (which I'm almost 100% sure is Belfast city). Either one should be around £5 taxi fare so no probs there.

Good luck for the interview btw!!!!!!!!
