What do you think? A few weeks ago, he said he would sign on for life at Barcelona.

    http://skysports.planetfootball.com/list.asp?hlid=245156&cpid=8&CLID=&lid=3&title=Ronnie+drops+Blues+hint&channel=Premiership

Now he seems a lot different. And these are not tabloid quotes either.

After his first seaon at Barcelona, the first thing I did was buy the Barca jersey with his name and number because I just *knew* he would join Chelsea. It didn't happen, thank God. Now, it could all be mind games but I don't know. It is looking likely it could become a possibility.

Any ideas? Makaveli, I know you have a liking for Barca too.

I honastly believe this will never happen, at least not for 3-4 years.
He had the choice between Barca and Utd, which at the time were at roughly the same strength, and his decision was between English and Spanish football.
    He choose Spanish.
He's there now, they are considered one of the best in the entire world, hot favorites for the CL and La Liga, hes got no reason to leave.

He's playing mind games, you see the way he said "to prove a technical player can succedd there", i.e. the english game is **** and relys to much on pace and power, and isn't skillful enough.
    Already a build up :)

Anything is possible in football but that article indicates nothing to me that he will be leaving Barca soon. He is talking about moving to the EPL 'before he retires'. He is 24 now. His brother may be fishing and if Chelsea come with a huge salary, he will go.

Exactly, he would be interested in playing in England at some time in the future. Thats all.

Yeah I just see it as him saying at some stage in his career he would like to play in England. Chelsea looking the most impressive at the moment would be the likely choice, also the fact that this came up was probably down to Barca drawing Chelsea.
If he was to go to Chelsea now though it would break my heart, but I can't see him leaving before winning something.

Off topic, Samuel Eto'o is a cocky bastard. Ya gotta love him.
"Several times I've been close to signing for Chelsea, but the deal was never closed. Now they'll have me on the other side of the pitch and they'll come out as losers."

"My brother, who is also my agent, has spoken to me about Chelsea many times.

Two words spring to mind when I read that, Nicholas Anelka. He chose Barca because they offered him the best terms, If Chelsea want to throw money at him he will go there and fair play to him.

Hes just stirring things up before the Champions League game.

He said recently that he'd sign a TEN year deal with Barca if they offered him one.

    I dont get it.

He couldn't afford to get 2 seperate shirts, one with Ronaldo 7 & and the other with Rooney 8 on it. Either that or he's dyslexic?

Eh? Barcelona shirts are "rare". Anything you can buy in Arnotts is most certainly not "rare". Where do you live, Belmullet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

Rare perhaps compared with Arsenal, Man Utd, Celtic jerseys.
Certainly not that rare, although I see alot more people wearing Real Madrid jerseys than Barca ones.

Sick, I got Saviola 7 on my Barcelona shirt few years back only to go over and check the interweb for footy news and discover Zidane had signed for Real Madrid. I was in the nou camp at the time...nightmare

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,314 ✭✭✭✭A Dub in Glasgo

Which is one of the reasons why I never get any name on the back of a shirt.

I presume I'm missing something as I don't get this post at all.
You got Saviola on your Barcelona shirt, fair enough.
Zidane signed for Madrid, again fair enough. What makes you sick?
You were on the internet in the Nou Camp? I think I need a good nights sleep.

I have it, but you're right, I haven't see anyone else wearing it. I have the home one too which isn't that common. Lots of people wearing older Barca jerseys though.

Ronaldinho's brother is a chancer... in his negotiations with Ferguson and Kenyon when Ronaldinho was leaving PSG he secured a helicopter and pilot for Ronaldinho and his own personal use as part of the potential deal. He's up there with the Anelka brothers in terms of sponging off of their siblings career.

Last season Barcelona got word of his negotiations with Chelsea and offered Ronaldinho a much improved contract. Some how the figures were leaked to Chelsea during the summer (I wonder who did that) and Chelsea offered Ronaldinho three times his improved basic salary. Ronaldinho informed the Barcelona club President and told him he was quite happy to be a Barca player and that he's enjoying life at the club. He told his brother that when he gets bored with playing football he'll take Chelsea up on their offer.

Bannor, do you know who Barca are planning to bring in now?
I hear the Tacchinardi deal is pretty much done.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 815 ✭✭✭Bannor

Taccinardi is a done deal but he will only sign if Rijkaard wants to spend money now as opposed to waiting until the summer. They've offered Santiago Solari (Real Madrid) a pre-contract but he hasn't accepted the offer yet. Roma have been approached regarding the availability of Dellas, the Greek defender and there's another offer on the table for Milito (Zaragoza).

The only certainty is that they want to sign a striker in the transfer window. John Carew is Rijkaard's first choice, they have approached Man City about taking Anelka on loan with a view to a permanent deal in the summer if he settles at the club and doesn't upset Ronaldinho. City aren't interested in a loan deal they only want money.

What about Saviola? Can they not call him back? I don't know why they would sign another striker when they have him. He's in good form at monaco. He's better than Carew and is at least as good as Anelka. I hope they don't sign Carew whatever happens.
Apparently juventus want 4 million for tacchinardi but barca want a loan deal.

I don't . I remember truning up to a soccer training one night where 5 out of about 16 people had Barca jerseys , the very same one (one as in design of course).

I don't really think that Saviola is what they're looking for - with the free form formation that Barcelona have with Deco, Ronaldinho and Guily/A.N. Other basically being given the freedom to completley fúck around behind Eto'o. Saviola could certainly fit into but he would need to change his game a bit to slot in as one of the three behind Eto'o.

He simply doesn't have the physical presence required or work rate to be a replacment for Eto'o. He's a drifter, creator and dribbler and a bloody good one but he can't do that job. Carew would be a total beast for it, both mobile as fúck and strong. Also importantly enough he would come with the ego demands of a first team place.

Larsson was happy enough as a bit part-ish player as he was sound enough and smart enough to know he didn't have even close to 40 games a season in him. I hope he comes back fit and strong, the poor fecker.

Personally I reckon Carew would be a good signing for that formation and he's unlikely to be expensive. I dunno if Barcelona have too much left in the kitty, they spent like animals in the summer. Spent well to be sure but still like animals.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

Yeah the money really isn't there to be buying players right now, that's why they're out looking for loan deals.
I agree with you Dapper, and that's why I don't want Anelka to join them. I can't see him fitting into the current formation and I reckon he would only upset things.
Dellas would be a good loan deal if they could get him, although he's cup tied for the CL.

They're looking for an EU player. Batistuta has offered them his services until the end of the season but they've turned him down.

The reason Saviola was loaned out is that in Spain you are only allowed three non-EU players in a match squad. Barcelona had too many South Americans on their books and they've been trying to offload a few for the past year or so - Fabio Rochemback is on loan with Sporting from Barcelona indefinitely, Sporting are paying less than 50% of his wages and if Barca sell the player while he's still under contract (two years remaining), Sporting will get 50% of the fee. In 2003, Liverpool were offered a similar deal involving Saviola but Houllier turned down the offer.

Saviola got dual citizenship at the begining of this season.

For those that can not read it in work:

Ronaldinho admits he would be more afraid if Barcelona were playing Arsenal, rather than Chelsea, in the next round of the UEFA Champions League.

Barcelona will face Premiership leaders Chelsea in the second round of Europe's most prestigious competition at the end of February.

It is arguably the tie of the round and Brazilian ace Ronaldinho is looking forward to coming up against an expensively-assembled Chelsea side.

But, while respectful of The Blues, Ronaldinho concedes he is a bigger fan of Arsenal and feels the current Premiership champions are a classier team than their London rivals.

"Chelsea look comfortable with the team they have, they are playing well and our meeting will be a very good game," Ronaldinho told Zoo magazine.

"But I don't believe they have the same class as Arsenal yet. Arsenal have some of the best players in the world and have great movement.

"Every goal they score is perfection. You rarely see them score a boring goal.

"I admire Arsenal most. Their skill is fantastic and it would be an honour to play with the likes of Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry.

"In Arsene Wenger they also have a coach who seems to bring the best out of players and is highly respected in Europe."

Ronaldinho picked up Fifa's World Footballer of the Year prize in December, fending off competition from Henry for the award.

The fleet-footed attacker, though, feels France international Henry was a more deserving winner of the title.

He added: "It is fantastic when people call you the best player in the world. You want to be the best whatever job you do and no matter how much you get paid.

"But I feel Henry is the best in the world, he's the complete striker.

    "There's nothing he can't do. He's a footballing genius."
