    Hi . .

I need to do a quick rule check . . I've just started playing hold-em at home with a group of mates and I'm confused about the dealing . . From watching on TV it looks as though the dealer burns a card before dealing each of the flop, the turn and the river . . Does this just happen because the dealer is not playing or should we also be doing this when the dealer is playing . . ? Also, with regard to the betting . . . if a player goes all-in but the betting continues afterwards and the pot increases and he subsequently wins the hand . . does he win the full pot or a proportion of the pot based on his all-in bet and if so, what happens to the rest of the pot . .

Sorry about all the basic questions. .

    hj.

You always burn a card before the flop, turn and river..it's to ensure that there's no cheating.

The main pot contains the blinds + the chips the player whose all-in has commited, and a matching set of chips from each other player still in the hand. Any subsequent betting goes into a sidepot that is only contested by the other players..

You should ALWAYS burn the card before the flop, turn and river... The reason it is burned is so that nobody gets to see, even the backs of, the cards that are coming. If a card is marked it stops somebody who knows about the mark from gaining any information about whats coming up.

An All-In bet can only win a matching amount from the other players. Any betting above the All In amount should be placed in a separate side-pot which goes to the best hand of those players still involved in the side pot.

If a player is involved in the side pot and subsequently folds they lose out on everything, they have no right to the main pot whether it is won by the players in the side pot who caused them to fold, or by the all-in player.
