    Greetings

    A customer of mine wants to take his existing website and allow users to order his one and only product online by credit card. He has asked me to set this up for him.

    Q. I have seen WorldPay mentioned a few times on this site. Would you recommend using them OR do you have any other suggestions?

    Q. Is it just a case of getting him to setup a business account with Worldpay and then me adding a form to his existing site that submits CC details to them? (Using SSL through his ISP of course).

    Q. Do CC processing comapnies provide web developers with guidelines or what variables to submit to them?

    Any tips or advice would be really appreciated.

    Before deciding on a payment gatway, what kind of volume will be moving through it. If there's a lot of transactions, well then something like WorldPay would be the way to go, however, if your client is only testing the water, there are other options, have a read of this http://www.ketec.net/I-Want-to-Sell-Products-Online.html

    Thanks for the help Freehost. At the start, he would be lucky to sell one a day at a cost of somewhere around 400euro. I can't believe that he would have to pay at least 3% as a transaction charge. Ouch.

    Yes this is where the maths come in;

    400 bucks @ 30 days = 12,000 bucks (30 Transactions)

    If he chose PayPal his charges would be in the region of 540 a month
    (4.5% of 12,000)

    If he chose Endeavour his charges would be in the region 120 a month
    (1% of 12,000) scheme A

    Each gateways work out differently depending on the volume, it might be worth sitting down using the above model, work out what each gateway will charge (worldpay will email you a quote, I think “pay and shop” will do the same) and present your client with an list option to choose from.

    ClickPay from the BOI will also do a deal if the sum is above 10K a month.

    New one on me. Google doesn't turn up anything obvious with my woefully selected keywords, got a link?

    Yes that's correct, they also operate under http://www.e-i-b-s.com/

    They are closely linked to the AIB, so if you have any type of ordinary account with the AIB, it just takes a painless online form to create the merchant account.
