dude, fair play to them, god knows if you were to walk round dublin like that you'd get the sh1t kicked into you in no time...and those goth kids think they got it bad...some of the pics are a lil skank like, however that army chick looked pretty cool...wouldnt mess with that lady- but hey at least they're different& inspiring such wonderful artists like gwen stefani...or her writers....dam they've got some wicked style.

I like the effort put into make-up, hair, costume, everything. It all looks so intricate and at times very graceful. And they don't really look skanky imo, just very sexy. If anyone tried anything remotely like that here except on Hallo-we'en etc. they'd be insulted non-stop. Two years ago on a non-uniform day in the boys' part of my school they had a non-uniform day, one guy turned up in a Mao-esque uniform and everyone just tore the sh|t out of him. It depends on what the done thing is in one's culture I suppose.

If I was better at dress-making, and had the time and the money/materials to, I'd make dresses like theirs, only chances are there wouldn't be much point wearing them unless I wished to be beaten to a pulp and verbally assaulted all the time.

I spent a few days in Harajuku the other week and it's a pretty interesting place but the photos in this thread are the more extreme side of things. Corsets and ballgowns seem to be the more common fashion around at the moment

Yeah those pics are the more extreme end of things. When i lived in Tokyo me and my mate used to go and hang out in Harajuku park on a sunday watching these guys and girls. I thought they were fabulous.
The chicks with the orange skin and short skirts are more the mainstream, 'kogaru' types.
There were other 'interesting' sights in Harajuku as well, like a troop of guys dressed in 1950s gear with brillcreme quiffs, doing the twist in a circle to rock 'n' roll music blared out of a ghetto blaster.
Harajuku is a un area to hang out in on the weekend.

It's a crazy place alright, especially the department stores - the marketing tactic there seems to be to dance and shout as loud as possible, in order to bring attention to your store! It's a bit surreal walking around surrounded by little Japanese girls with megaphones shouting over each other...
