Yes the minister said this yesterday with the spread of the foot and mouth accross England and now into Wales. The Rugby international in Cardif has been called off as a result of it? Is the Irish government being overly protective or are they right to protect Irish agriculture? I personally think there right espically with Irelands history of foot and mouth.

How careful IS "too careful" when it comes to highly contagious communicable diseases that threaten some of the most basic elements of our food supply?

Personally, I think they're going a little over the top, but they're right to do so, at least until the incidence of the disease is sufficiently isolated and (hopefully) wiped out.

Considering how easy the disease can spread I think he is fair in saying it. All it needs is a good wind and Ireland/France can get infected.

Heck parts of England have been cordoned off from people going there to stop the diease.

I think it's pretty serious as it actually made the TV news here.

now that would be nice tehe,

but seriously, this is a damn highly communicable disease and the fact that all it really needs is a strong wind to spread scares the **** out of me but theres nothing we can do about the wind, we are right however in taking every precaution we can take, cos its a dangerous b@stard of a disease

how often do we get an easterly wind? pray for southwest! smile.gif

If the situayion reaches here itl be a disaster for farming.
the goverment are right in taking all actions to stop the spread of the disease.
i wouldnt be suprised if the uk gets compleaty cut of from the rest of the uk ie no travel ,no goods no anything.
if this gets into ireland or main land europe agriculture is f(cked.(there has already been 1 confirmed case in an abatoire in germany)
on the plus side , after 300 years england will get cut off from the rest of the world.

Someone mentioned here that they are planning on cancelling paddys day? Anyone confirm that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,446 ✭✭✭✭amp

The first I heard of all this foot in mouth disease was the rugby match was cancelled. I thought it unfair to have the same restrictions on our marvelous rugger team as the dumb animals of this fair land.

    hmmmm.... oh right

Methinks its time for martial law, set up 15k troops on the border and nail anything that tries to cross (hopefully a few SAS fellas will try smile.gif).

Remember the northern irish f*cked up on the BSE too so dont bother saying "its just one island".

It looks nasty, were getting it on the news over here

I dare someone to post a cancellation to rte with something along the lines of a clan match for CS or Quake. smile.gif

Even they wont be able to stop it. All that is required to spread the disease is a storm.

This fupping foot and mouth disease is utter toss. Night clubs and pubs will be closed in castlebar where i go to college.

All this effort is useless though cause you'll never be able to keep the lads in the country away from the sheep...

There after sending 1000 aoliders to the border, along with the 500 gardí. In 1967 they had a solider in every field for 247 miles.

Ye had better have caught the damn disease by the end of March, I've plane tickets booked over for a weekend on the beer and I'm gonna be fierce annoyed if they close the airports to non-essential traffic like they're suggesting smile.gif

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 398 ✭✭Jelvon

its practical impossible to close the border though , around clones here there is a good few roads into the north without checkpoints and god knows how many farmers up here have farms with fields in the south and north. Of course if they really wanted to close the border they would do like the british army did back in the troubles and blow up sections of border roads.
umm Winning Hand there is only 8,500 men and women serving in the Irish Army so where are you getting 15k from?
IMHO I think it is too late neway , foot and mouth is probably here and the government just doesn't want to admit it yet..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,264 ✭✭✭✭Hobbes

Shinji, can you confirm that? or show where to look? You don't get a refund on your ticket for things like this.

our wonderful farmers in the UK,have applied to have the No Movement Ban lifted in areas not affected by foot and mouth.
Kind of defeats the purpose of Quarentine doesnt it?

Also over here we are subjected to a constant stream of the pro farming lobby telling us they are the guardians of the countryside and yet as soon as there is an outbreak of any comunicable desease they want to shoot the (rap out of every Fu(King Badger,Fox and and Rabbit they see.

And dont worry about the farmers i am sure they will find a way of getting compensation for this,if only the same rules applied for dwindling cod stocks there might be a few happier fishermen frown.gif

Countryside Alliance are a bunch of pampered hypocrites, now get off my land

My Bad. I saw a number somewhere that put the number of people in the military full time at 30,000.
Regardless, isnt this kinda what the fca would be good for?
