tis amazing what the christmas lucky dip turns up from people ;) ... here is what I ended up after all the smoke cleared:-

War of the Flowers - Tad Williams
Long Way Around - Ewan McGregor/Charlie Boorman
    The Moviegoers Companion - Various
The World According to Clarkson - Jeremy Clarkson
    London Bridges - James Patterson

and some other sci-fi book called 'saga of seven suns' volume 1 "Hidden Empire" by someone or other.

Not exactly high literature, but thats the lucky dip for ya :D

I splurged out just before Christmas and got
    Century Rain by Alastair Reynolds
The Runes of the Earth by Stephen Donaldson
River of Gods by Ian McDonald
The Family Trade by Charles Stross
    Toast by Charles Stross
Eastern Standard Tribe by Cory Doctorow

I've finsihed Family Trade already. The rest have been added to my 'To Read' pile, which includes Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, Absolution Gap and Redemption Ark, both by Alastair Reynolds. Why do I keep buying these books when I know I won't have time to read them?
