    In the end comfortably.
Min -0.7C an October record. And joint earliest in season to record an air frost.

AWS got down to -0.9C but I take the reading from the Met Eireann instruments.

Grass min -5.1C, a little behind the -5.4C recorded on 24th Oct 2002.

Low of 1.0c here last night. Currently 1.6c @ 8:35am. Lots of frost on the fields around here. I'd say there were a few sub zero frost pockets around here last night. Great October/Halloween weather!

My min was 0.9c at approx 8.15am, grand crisp morning out there, hardly a breeze out.

AWS low of 4.8c which is wrong(new sensor on the way) other thermos recorded low of 2.8c.
Lots of grass frost and ice on cars.
Actually frost got thicker on the grass as i was on the school run this morning and that is towards the coast.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr at 6 am! Nice now if out of the wind.

God its going to be cold tonight if that frontal cloud does'nt get moving.

    Mike.

    I think I'll see below -1C tonight.

Grass temp already -1.5C some 8C lower than air temp 1.2m above.

No wonder ones feet get cold!

Looks like your getting some really low temps there Mothman.

2.6c here ATM. Should see the first air frost here tonight.

Heading towards 2C, nearly 2C colder than this time last night.

Looks like both air and grass min will be 1C colder than last night.

Fig tree in the tunnel looked a sorry sight today with all the top branches burned.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,310 ✭✭✭Trogdor

Already down to 5.6C here, first proper frost here tonight me thinks

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,433 ✭✭✭✭Supercell

Stalled at 0.5C for now, grass -4.5C

What is telling is that dewpoint is 3C lower than this time lst night.

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,433 ✭✭✭✭Supercell

Yep much drier air, much more potential to cool down tonight, hope it remains clear throughout the night.

I notice that there there was precip this moring when the temp was only around 1°C....wonder was that melting condensation in the rain bucket or maybe sneachta!(yeah I know..wishful thinking ..), was certainly overcast but frosty here when leaving for work this morning.

Yes a heavy dew/frost can be enough to give a tip, but usually it takes 2-3 mornings, ie 0.1mm net (dew/frost minus evaporation) precipitation each day, not enough to tip bucket on one day, but the build up during successive days is enough.

Temp up for now. 1C, some cloud has moved overhead.

It certainly looked cloudy over your direction for the past couple of days although I doubt whether that was precip. It seems there was a lot of moisture in the air last night by the amount of dew / frost around this morning.

Temp has started going up here as it has just clouded over from the east. 2.3c ATM

Temp gradually falling here, 4.3c currently.

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,433 ✭✭✭✭Supercell

Just popped outside, clouded over here, mostly thin stratus muck from the looks.
Not going to be an air frost if that stuff thickens up much.
Plenty of time though yet for ice and...

    A stubborn blanket of stratus.
    Temp rose throughout the night.
    7C this morning.

This morning low of 2.8c just after 8am, another grand morning out there and looks like it'll be a nice day :)

Yeah, I'll second that, this time of year is pretty much an in between bit in some ways.
Stil can't complain, bugs buggering off, and not too hot or windy.
Must remember to stock up on rulers to stick in my garden to measure the snow depth this coming winter ;)
