Anyone hear what those people were doing driving a 4x4 on Howth pier during a storm..

    http://www.unison.ie/irish_independent/stories.php3?ca=9&si=1275704&issue_id=11598

    "
FOUR people had a lucky escape early today when a huge wave slammed into their 4x4 on Howth's East Pier and washed it into the sea.

The vehicle was driven down the East Pier tight against the wall as enormous waves pounded the area shortly after midnight.

High tide was minutes away from its peak when a huge wave jumped the wall and crashed into the four by four forcing it towards the edge of the pier.

Three of the men scrambled to safety as their vehicle spun over the edge of the pier and into the harbour with the fourth man still inside.

He apparently managed to get free of the sinking four by four and got out of the water. All four were then marooned at the end of the pier as a rescue operation was well under way. Ambulances stood by at the end of the pier and the crew of Howth lifeboat braved huge seas to save the men. It is understood they suffered no injuries"

Rain in Dundalk now is crazy - flooding in places I've never seen flooding before. Like outside my house for one. Like a swimming pool out there. Lucky theres a couple of steps up to the door or we'd be flooded. Fork lightning every 5 seconds. Reminds me of when I was in Thailand in monsoon season! :D

Think it's about to let up soon though. Hopefully!

Lashing down here too. Getting worse if anything.

    Mike.

Yeah, bad thunderstrom in Dundalk tonight. Headed north I'd say.

Musta been about 1.5+ inches of rain since about 6 tonight.
Lots of fork ligthning and cloud to cloud strikes.

That is an interesting one and its heading north. :D
Dublin Airport got the shower I had earlier as it reported 10.4mm at 1800gmt. That was the rainfall for just the hour.

My weatherstation is not able to upload atm, problems accessing IOL(my host), though the data is being uploaded to Weather Underground.

    Raining steadily here now.

Just started raining again in Dublin.

Looks like there's a lot of crap heading up from the southeast at the moment, tracking northwest. Looks like it'll be another wet night.

See it on the radar here

There's a standard sized bucket outside the backdoor, its about 1 cm from being full! Its really coming down, God knows what the roads will be like in the morning.

    Did I say storm over.

Lashed rain here in south wicklow all night and it's still lashing.
Heavy thunderstorms and lots of lighning during the night also.

The thunderstorm was at it's noisiest and lighting up the sky between about 4 and 6 am

Sounds like it was worse (or better :D ) with you. Thought I heard thunder myself. Had heavy rain from about 4:30-5:10. over 10mm, Dublin missed this.

    Donegal/Ballybofey area.

Dark, very dark grey low clouds, really miserable. Just like November.
