Heres a Mesoscale precipitation chart it shows that most
areas will be affected by some wintry stuff at some
time :) The worst place seems to be Eastern NI with
plenty of snow for there as well as a feature moving
south through the Irish sea late Christmas day which
may clip the Republic east coast :)

Very very windy here now

It's now Christms Eve Morning 00.55am, and outside in Ballybofey the wind has eased, it has stopped raining. It is a silent night, everything is surprisingly quiet, and there is a strange stillness in the air.

    Merry Christmas to you all.

its only about 4 or 5C here in south meath and raining, we had a very heavy burst of rain about 20 minutes ago and there appeared to be a wee bit of sleetyness mixed init during the heaviest moments.

From now on keep any eye ont this satellite, a very good one
which is updated every 30mins, it clearly shows two
troughs to the northwest and a blob of something coming
into Mayo. It will be good to see how these develop :)

The rain has turned to sleet which has just turned to snow in Glasgow. Big snow flakes although the ground is very wet at the moment.

that chart looks promising, i just hope all those showers dont fade into nothing by the time they get here as can often happen, at this stage id be happy with an inch or two on the ground at some stage tomorrow before nightfall:) the ultimate would be to have the snow falling heavy while eating my christmas dinner and the fire blazing inside:)

    But nearly
Rain and snow reported is a euphimism for sleet. But 100% snow there by now or very soon with those temperatures.

I'm temporarally closing this thread so as to keep all talk of snow in the white Xmas thread.
I'll re-open it when the snow has gone on the 27th.
