...and back on thread again :) Extremely windy here in Laois. Weather station picked up a gust of 85 mph (137Km/h) a little over an hour ago. That's the highest I've got yet - the previous best was 79 mph during the storms a few weeks back. Oh, and bright, sunny and too bloody cold to mow the lawn again.

Beautiful starry night with a hard ground soon to be air frost
    setting in. Now 1.1c ;)

Wasnt expecting the cold to last this long and it would seem it
wont even get mild this week! :D

Temperature has plummeted to -0.7c and looking like beating
our measely winter minimum of -1.1c !

Stark temperature really for being less than 500m's from the sea
Especially when this cold snap was meant to be gone 2 days ago!

Well clear overnight skies always lead to a frost in february usually
If this was a cold snap the temp would have hit freezing at dusk :)

0c here btw and clear skies.

3.5c here in Balmy Portlaoise (a.k.a. Portlousey)

Rather sunny too. I noticed that the snow in Ballyroan Hill is thinning out, or did all the Ballyroaners go up there with their sleds?

Anyone go sledding over the last few days? reports welcome! :D

Is it just my imagination or was the snow on the Dublin mountains sticking right down close to sea level or maybe just a hundred or two hundred feet up? On the DART this morning at Clontarf, it was just beginning to get bright but I could see the snow all the way to the bottom. When I got of the tram at Blackhorse in Inchicore (closer to the mountains at this stage), the snow still appeared to be right down to the base of the mountains. Does anyone know just how close to normal level ground the snow stayed lying to? Was there any snow lying today in south Tallaght, for example? Or maybe up around Mt Venus, which really is not much higher than the M50.

I'm about 180 ft asl and I still had some patchy snow in the garden here this morning , it's all gone now though-but I'm in wicklow.

One thing to point out, when theres lying snow on theground the temperature stays lower by day than if there was none.

For example,I went to the mountains near me last night, where there was over a foot of lying snow at 1500ft asl-the temp was minus one.
Five miles over the road at sea level, and where there was no snow, the temp was plus 3.

Constant heavy rain/sleet and hail showers here this evening.

    21:45 3.8C
