using ssi causing backgorunds to appear wrong for a sec on loading

I have the background image set to be loaded once. Just for a second it is shown as being tiled, which looks crap, and then it changes to how I want it. Anyone know why. Didn;t happen until I put in the ssi. Think i can work around it pretty easily, but am still curious. not really relevant at all any more, but…
