Recording a Webcast

I suppose this is the right forum for it... Anyway, so if I'm sitting there having some silly japanese pop music streamed to me from asia and i think, hey this one is pretty cool, I'll save it. How do I? Is there a handy program/method for converting a live webcast stream to a wav/mp3 etc?

you don't mention which OS.
on a Mac running OSX, if it's audio only, you can use Audio Hijack
on WindowsXP you can capture audio and video using some of the tools on this site : http://emoney.al.ru/capture-streaming-video-and-audio/record-streaming-video-windows-media-and-real-video.htm

I use 'mp3 sound recorder' from download.com to save any sounds going through my sound card Its excellent for winamp radio or sputnik7.com

not any actual advice more of a pointer, their was a good thread about this very recently maybe 2-3 weeks ago, which I though gave some good links, might be worth a look, if I find it quickly Ill post it
