Give an account of the Cuban Missile Crisis between the USA and USR

that's a 12 mark question, too long for a pop quiz

Anyways I'll do some of the main points.
-Castro and his communist party took over leadership of cuba
-US no longer traded with Cuba because they were communist
-Cuba got help from Russia under Krushchev (Can't spell it lol)
-Cuba gave permission for the russians to build ICBM launch stations in Cuba
-Major american cities where in range of the missiles
-JFK said if any missiles where launched it would be seen as an attack on the US
-Ordered a blockade of cuba with the US navy
-Tensions where high for a while
    -They eventually made a compromise
    -Results
    Washington-Moscow hotline was set up
USA dismantled their missiles in Turkey
They signed a pact to make sure they never put the world at risk of nuclear war again
USA stopped above ground nuclear tests

Pretty sure that's the bulk of it, haven't studied this in a while

Question: Name two problems in a developing world city you have studied

You forgot to mention the dictator of Cuba before Castro, Genereal Batista. The Americans liked him because he didn't allow Cuba to be over-run with communism, until Castro lead a communist revolution in the 1950s and that lead to General Batista being overthrown and Castro the new leader. The Russians helped because Castro was communist ;). Also, the Americans knew there were missles in Cuba because of the U2 Spy Plane.

Ah, it's coming back to me now :D Cheers :)

want to have a crack at the question, if you do geography of course ;)

-Overcrowding, there are not enough houses. Alot of people live in very poor shanty towns, even on roofs of poorly built shelters.

You're right, but this is how you finish it:
    (a + c) (b - 1)
I'll let someone eles answer your question.

I thought that both had to be the same, as in if there was a b+1 and a b-1 as they are different they can't be paired together?
Thats the way I learned it anyway :O

A moral code is something that gives guidance on how people should live. For example The Ten Commandments in Christianity. They give guidance on how people should live in right relationship with others and with God.

Write an account of the reign of terror in the french revolution.

It's a 12 mark question and I'd appreciate it if some one can answer this. You may just lay it out in point form.

The reign of terror was the term used to describe Robespierre's extreme rule over France during the French revolution.

Those who called for a republic in Farance were represented by Robespierre, a revolutionist elected to the estates general and an opponent of the king's power.

The revolution faced many enemies including Kings, Queens, nobles, the Clergy and very religious Catholics who disliked the new changes to the Catholic Church.

The French King had lost his power was very religious and decided to leave Paris for Belgium where his wife's (Marie Antoinette) brother ruled. However King Louis only reached Versailles at the border when he was arrested and brought back to Paris. Many people now felt that Louis was an enemy of the revolution so he was later executed along with his wife.

Due to the above threats to the revolution, Robespierre decided that violence and terror was needed to ensure the revolution wasn't crushed.

A Committee of public safety was set up consisting of 12 members and led by Robespierre. It arrested anyone suspected of being an enemy of the revolution.

Soon after, a Law of Suspects was passed that set up a Revolutionary Tribunal (court). This court executed anyone who disagreed with the new government. People found it very hard to prove themselves innocent. Countless priests (who refused to take oath of loyalty to revolution), bishops, nobles and ordinary people were tried and guillotened.

The main reason for Robespierre power and why he was allowed to carry out these executions was because he had the support of the poor Parisians, called the Sans-Cullotes. He kept bread prices low which kept them happy. Robespierre's policies on the battlefield were also successful, having defeated both Austria and the rebels in the Vendeé.

Soon it became clear that the revolution wasn't going to be prevented. However Robespierre continued his executions and lost support of most French people. He and his followers were arrested. In an attempt to commit suicide he shot himself in the jaw but the next day he was executed along with his followers.

Robespierre had saved the revolution but at a huge cost.

Results of the reign of terror included:
    the loss of 40,000 lives
France at war with most of Europe
European kings and queens worried the same would happen to their countries so they arrested anyone who disagreed with them
Many europeans who previously admired the revolution changed their opinion, feeling that being ruled by a king/queen was better than the chaos (ie. the reign of terror)

I know I've included no dates but thats because I can't learn dates for my life! Got an A in the mock and knew no dates which proves they're not essential :)
It's also a bit long but that means if you forget some of it you'll still have enough points

It was the Flight to Varennes, not Versailles. It's good otherwise and you don't lose marks for incorrect information. I placed Martin Luther's life 300 years in the future and I got full marks.:pac:

Whoops, thanks! :) I'd better ask a question:
What is the difference between an endownment policy and whole life assurance? (Business)

  • Registered Users Posts: 390 ✭✭A97

Whole Life means that your life is assured until you die and compensation will be paid to your next of kin if you pay your premium.

Endowment works similar to Whole Life but when you reach a certain age e.g. 60, you can cash in your policy before you die. This is called Surrender Value.

Write down 10 key points on Operation Barbarossa, from WWII.

    - It was the invasion of the Soviet Union by the Nazis
    - It was done because Hitler hated communism and wanted Lebensraum. He also wanted oil.
    - Stalin/The Russians called it the 'Great Patriotic War'
    - Stalin ordered Industry to be moved behind the Ural mountains
    - Stalin issued a scorched-earth policy.
    - Germany advancement was halted by winter snow.
    - The following year, Hitler attacked Stalingrad.
    - Fighting took place on the streets and Germans became trapped
    - 200,000 Germans were forced to surrender.
    - This was the point in the war that encouraged the advancement of the USSR.
