How are Clints and grikes formed? (Geography)

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,472 ✭✭✭Missyelliot2

Clints and Grikes form on karst landscapes e.g The Burren Co. Clare, where CO2 is absorbed in rainwater that falls, and thus erodes these limestone landscapes. Limestone which is a permeable sedimentary rock, erodes in the presence of this rainwater. This causes these external formations by chemical weathering (carbonation) known as clints and grikes.
