Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

D.J. Charges for events

    If you're a DJ, what do you charge for events such as weddings, 21sts etc?

    It can take a fair bit of preperation getting all the music that fits the event together and lined up. How do you come up with your figure? Do you just make up a figure and hope for the best?

    Different Events Means Different money. also we go on whether or not you need to carry gear i.e Speakers, amps , decks.

    Here is my pric list

    21st,30,40 - 200

    Weddings - 300

    Regular (residences) - 200

    mate of mine has been doin it for a good few year aswell, he only charges 150for 21st n teh likes but hes booked up EVERY friday and sat night, usually a waiting list.. tis crazy it a good biz to be in

    I still do it occasionally and 200 notes is the normal rate for me. Different functions call for different rates but usually a rate of 50 euros per hour with a minimum of 4 hours (including set up and pack up time) would be the norm. Extra for weddings and the like. 150 euros for friends.

    Is there much capital outlay to get in to it?

    I'd say that its not hard to keep up with the musical trends at all, and to build up a stock of "generic party songs" like "Rock the Boat" and all that kinds crap.

    My gear currently runs at about €3k, not including lights which I hire to suit the occasion.

    For wedding it all depends on the duration. There's usually 3 grades..after the band for approx 2 hours €300. Instead of a band for approx 4 hours €450, and all day audio approx 8 hours €950.

    You'll need powerful gear for a wedding with crystal clear speakers and top quality mics. You'll need backups for everything as well so count on doubling up on cd players, mixer, mics, and amp. You'll usually need to rent a tux or at least kit yourself out smartly.
