Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Something to do for a non-tourist?

Quite seriously it's amazing - either the East Coast has minimal attractions or I'm just missing them all.

I told the mrs. that I'd take her to something next week when she gets home...It was kind of aimed at the theatre etc. as we both ruled out the monotiny (sp?) of the cinema. But seeing as there are no good plays/comedy gigs/concerts on in the next week I'm thoroughly stuck.

What do we have in Dublin given January's weather? A Zoo, ice-skating (closing at the weekend), a hell of a lot of pubs and restaurants.

Is that it? I don't want to do something aimed at tourists but at this stage I was contemplating going on the Dublin Bay 'Sea Safari' (not those Viking boats!).

    Any suggestions, preferably for evening-times?

Take the Luas to the National Museum in Collins Barracks. It'll fill a few hours. Then a few drinks and a nice meal in town.

Cheers for the suggestion. I've never 'ridden' the Luas :D

Take her to the wax museum, followed by the zoo. It'll bring out the kid in you both! :)
Oh, or a day at the races! Actually i'd find that pretty boring to be honest, forget that idea. Im out of ideas now! You're right, there is nothing to do in this city.

The bus tour is great even if it's cold. Love doing it myself any time I get visitors. Get on and get off at your leisure. Also those Viking tours are a bit of laugh , but only in warm weather. :p Gravity Bar in Guinness is also good.

Go to the tour of the Guinness brewery, sounds tourestie, but its actually really good, you have no idea how interesting the guinness history is...or at least i didnt, plus some sights are amazing, theirs sample tasting, and you can top it all off with a romantic drink with the best view of Dublin in the city in the sky bar. (make sure you go in the evening)
    ;)
And incase you were wondering.....no i don't work for them!

Climb up Killiney hill you get great views from the top, nicer in summer though, or go to Stillorgan and play pool or bowling. Or if all else fails go to the pub.

How about the Musem of Modern Art at the Royal Hospital, Kilmainhem (sp?)? Or head out to Howth and visit the transport museum. And don't forget the National Gallery, The Natural History Museum (a perfectly preserved example of a Victorian museum) and Government Buildings (Saturdays only) all near Merrion Square. And the Jameson Distillery in Smithfield.

Another vote for IMMA, it is a beautiful place. Even if you decide modern art isn't for you, their coffee shop is fab :)

Also, Kilmainham Jail have a very good tour, even if it is thoroughly depressing.

I like the National Gallery myself. I love the huge painting of Strongbow and Aoife, I spot something new in it everytime. But don't bother with coffee there it's a rip off but there are nice cafes just up the road.

Also another vote for the IMMA, it's really interesting. And the National Museum on Kildare St is full of gold and the beautiful Ardagh Chalice.

Or are there any tickets left for I, Keano? It's supposed to be very funny

Head into town on Friday evening, take a walk around Trinity College and then head to the cinema on D'Olier Street, then a nice pint in Chaplins.
