Saw a bit on EVP (electronic voice phenomena) on 'This Morning' of all places! Featured the trailer to the movie 'White Noise' which apparently features genuine EVP footage.

So what do you think? Cross-Modulation or communication with the other side?

Personally I have to go with cross-modulation/interference, but it doesn't stop some of this stuff from being quite eerie. Check out the movie trailer here http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/white_noise/index.html

have any of you lot tried recording white noise to see if you get anything?

I did some research on evp a few months ago, and my conclusions have to be that although a huge amount of them are open to interpretation, there are some that you simply cannot deny is a persons voice. There's plenty out there on the net, just go looking around. Don't have the nergy to find you some links, but theres plenty out there.

One sticks out in mind. An old man saying he needs to matches. The grandfather of one of the people present had always been losing his matches, and was scottish. You can quite clearly hear a scottish accent in the voice.

So what it all means I have not a sinlge clue, but it is interesting.

Edit: I watched the trailer and indeed all the EVP's in the first half are real world recordings, I've heard them elsewhere.

Why has this phenomenon only been detected on sound recordings? Why haven't the dead left messages on video/DVD recording, TV, text message, email, bulletin boards and so forth?

because maybe they dont have all that equipment with them!!!! plus if they are only a spirit then they can not use stuff like this as they have no hands! :-)

    1) I assume they don't have microphones in the astral dimension with them

    2) If they don't have hands then they shouldn't have larynxes either

    www.worlditc.org

is the best site for this stuff. Some fascinating sound recordings there, including an amazing and very eery choir sung by people on the other side.

I haven't listend to many, but i have heard snippits of the type before, one apparantly by the bird man recorded in alcatraz when that scottish presenter, cant remember her name , was doing a show called "Dead Famous" looking for the spirits of dead people who were famous, this eddition was actually looking for al capone, Unfortunatly this phenominom is too easy to hoax to have any credability for me....

Quite frankly I find that site to be extremely dubious. Try here :

    http://aaevp.com/

    It's a tad more scientiffic.

PS: And I listened to a couple of the recordings on worldITC, you can quite blatantly hear them taking a breath or the smacking of lips while some of them speak.

listening to some of the stuff on the whitenoisemovie website...

interesting, freaky... and odd. not sure if it's really the voices of the deceased, but I'm curious anyhow...

might warrant a little experimentation of my own

there a web radio show called nightwatch (http://www.nightwatchshow.com) that recently featured a slot on EVPs - well on two shows actually. the first show has a bunch on it and the second show is an interview with an investigation team who talk through their own evps. very interesting stuff.

You can stream the shows from radiocrackle.com without having to download:

    show one is at http://radiocrackle.com/index.php?id=43

    show 2 is at http://radiocrackle.com/index.php?id=41

then theres a second investigater interview with more evps at:

    http://radiocrackle.com/index.php?id=53

have to say though, i find dead famous even more tacky than most haunted and that white noise movie is so far removed from reality its not even funny. totally mis presents evps and theories behind them.

A great place for info is http://www.hauntednc.com ... dont let the tacky site design put you off ...

EVP can only be done on magnet tapes! Hench, video tape and audio tape.

there is absolutely no proof to back that up. when the first generation of digital recorders were out, they werent used due to various flaws, but these days digital recorders are used by most research teams.

Heres a link that explains everything you need to know about EVP.

What is the best kind of recording device for EVP?

The answer to this question has changed as technology has evolved. Today, the IC recorder or digital note taker is fast becoming the recorder of choice for experimenting in both field and controlled conditions.

    ;)
