Buying a Mobile in the US of A

I'm heading to California in June on my Honeymoon and was thinking of getting a new phone out there. What would you recommend and does anyone know of some good places to buy phones out there? Thanks!

Be careful what you buy. There are three frequencies (bands) used here and three bands in the States but only one is common to both areas. Therefore if you buy a phone in the states you will have one only functional band to use back home. As phone operators use two bands here your American handset will be extremely limited. Also make sure the phone is GSM and not CDMA.
