I was walking my permission around 8.30 oclock this morning when spoted six deer herd at the far side of the field. It is huge open field and there is no way to stalk in any close without being noticed. Ranged this doe at 364 metres, dialed in using strelok app on my phone, put the rolled up mat under the butstock, stoped my breath and squeezed the triger. She just neeled down on front legs for a second ,rolled over and never moved again. Was delighted with the boiler shot. The other deer moved into the woods.
That's my personal farthest shot. Previous was 240 yards. I would prefer neck shot normaly and at the closer distance, but since it was so far and big open field I took chest shot.

    Here she is

headed off this morning with a bad hangover and a cocker that was on his A game and probably too fast for me as i could barely move! went to another great spot that i only aquired today so it was trial an error . took the young springer for a quick sprint with the older lad , and he went very well ,was hunting freely and going into substantial cover which i liked ,also have him at the stage with the starter pistol now that he doesnt even look around when i fire it. anyway put pup back into car and ran cocker alone. he was trailing a bird for about 200 yards then ran into cover and ran the length of ditch and i could see the cock ahead of him and knew he was gonna break at any second so it was an easy shot and text book retrieve. hunted 1 other cock that got away untouched due to trying to cross a dike with a sick head and reflexes like the grandmother! also flushed a fox but got no shot and
also saw the funniest thing the dog was hunting cover and this hare broke and ran but ran straight into a low electric fence and he got twisted ,he ran away looking like he got a slap of a train the poor egit!

another good day for charlie 10 today and the cocker! went out to a good spot today that i hit earlier in the season, and hunted 4 woodcock 2 out to the buddy with no results and two in front of me with no result .i blame the drink! (again) headed on another 3 miles and met three hens and i was getting pissed off that nothing was coming down .and just as i was about to turn for home i see the cocker getting busy and burst through heavy cover only to put out the smallest cock phesant i have ever seen or shot but took him anyway due to things not going my way. hit a pond after and got another scaup and teal so good end to a slow start. unfortunetly i had to carry cocker back to the car on my back due to over heating issues! plopped him in front of the fire when i got home with food and water and he is watching gold diggers now on discovery ! i must say even though the weather was poor this season i have shot a nice few phesant and endless duck and snipe and im not finished with the woodcock yet! all in all a great season for me and i cant complain

Went out there for a hour at the back of my house walking 3 fields down Odie hunting cover bout 20 yards ahead when this kamikaze woodcock busts out straight for me, passes between me and the ditch and just as he went over clipped him with a rem 6 34g in the next field he pegged into cover, and of course not one but 2 bulls inside where he landed. Odie didnt know where he was so i had to go through some of the ditch and send her back hopen she would pick up the scent, she did and trailed him into the cover the ran for, bout 1minute of busting cover and fluttering and she finally got him. one of the hardest shots and retrieve of the season for me.

Then 2 fields down again and was crossing a drain when the teal took flight, shot him and was sending odie for retrieve and i looked to my right......5 teal were in flight....SICK, i had seen only the fella going to the left and 5 went the opposite way. Duck was in the next field and was retrieved. Gammy weather today was like a drowned rat. Anyway here are some pictures

Said id go for a shot today with my 2 springers went to a spot behind the mothers where i always meet birds. 2nd field i went into 2 springers were adament in cover and bang up gets a big melanistic pheasant beautiful bird but no shot as went out the other side of the ditch. anyway i picked my jaw up and hit a corner where there a few planted trees, just as i was coming over the hill up got 2 lovely mallard, they were a bit too far so left them off, but as my springers entered the little stream up got the 3rd mallard and down with one shot. Retrieved by Odie but Abbey hunted him, all in all delighted with the duck. Missed a sitter of a cock pheasant after that as i was after going for a swim in a swamp and was drowned head to toe. Met a woodcock on the way back to the house but gun was unloaded. here are some pics....HEADSHOT OF A FOX SUNDAY NIGHT

Well lads got out today cause cant get out tomorrow, headed out with my springer and the cousins setter. Went to where the father used to shoot years ago and low and behold the first gate i jumped over bang, setter locked and springer dove into the ditch up got this cock and a handy shot for me, text book retrieve. Thought twas gona be a dinger of a day but just met a few hens after that. The cousin missed a sitter of a cock when the setter locked to the left and my springer came from the other side, the cock went up between um 3 shots fired and no pheasant, "i prefer and over and under he says" haha. Went flighting some duck this evening and didnt meet one but saw about 80-90 geese fly over our heads. And any fella that says you cant hunt a springer and a setter/pointer is mad.....2 days i have done this and twas brilliant shooting, might buy a pointer/setter over the summer. Anyway 14 cocks for me and Odie/Abbey this year being our first hopefully we can better it next season. Cant wait for the posts tomorrow night its been a pleasure reading and looking at ye're post........till september.....

well had no plan on going out today it was like i wanted to stay home and sulk at the thoughts of the season ending. so friend called and we mounted up and headed for the barron lands of kerry. when we rode into the farm my jaw hit the floor at the sight of the glen ahead and looked at my thrusty cocker and said "just one more bird lad and we are sorted. with that we met the farmer had a quick cuppa and filled the repeater with 32g 6s ,zipped the jacket and took a deep breath and set off . we had another 2 spaniels but this glen was so big we would need 10 dogs. so we crossed the top part first and then zig zagged it down. at the top of the glen we put the dogs into cover and out bolted a bunny ,BOOM! down he thumbled , then shortly after another which i thought was odd! wasnt expecting bunnys. when we got to the glen floor we met the woodcock i shot one missed three found it hard to get the gun on them due to the cover and trees.met 5 snipe which i shot one and the other lad shot 2. also two foxs were shot but not by me ! good day had but bitter sweet. lamping now from now on in and cant wait !

I got down the wood for an hour this evening roost shooting in the high winds. With the wind coming northerly it made things interesting as the wood shoots best when the wind is southerly. This meant the only safe shots were taken at birds coming with the wind which was not easy shooting. I was happy with a cartridge ratio of 1 in 3 bagging only 6 pigeons. Its definitely not going to be the biggest bag in February but it might be the hardest earned.

headed off last night for lamp with a buddy and do a route that usually shows a few bunnies but last night it wasnt the case one passage that has a lamp shy fox was first on the cards. turned on the vixen "call out" on the app on the phone. sat tight for 5 mins and low and behold there was our ould dog fox friend sitting sweet at easily 3 hundred yards . buddy put the 223 on the bonnet and let fly with a 55 vmax.i heard a thump but couldnt make out if he hit him or not .so we set off down the field with torch in hand and fingers crossed.we got to a post where i had roughly marked out and found our dog fox passed out. the bullet some how went straight through his two balls .his eyes were crossed and so were my legs when i saw it!!!drove on and saw another fox at the base of a ditch mooching around so through gun on roof and the drivers door slammed and off he went like usain bolt. i kept rifle ahead of him and squeezed off a little 18gr vmax and hit him into the shoulder and down he went . roughly 120 130 yards. final fox was shot at half 3 in the morning and was hit at about 160 yards . it was the wierdest reaction from a fox i have ever seen he just walked around in circles for about 3 mins in slow motion and then keeled over. good night had overall and saw plenty of hares around and even saw a hare with a young leveret which was a welcomed sight.:D
