Ceefax, for many years a staple information source for sports fans, has gradually seen its importance wane with the invention of this Internet malarkey. These days, the best thing about it is perhaps the crazily scrambled screens you get when there's a storm or some other sort of interference. The resultant weird jumble of words, often most reminiscent of jazz poetry or a Ron Atkinson commentary, creates some alarming stories.

A reader writes that a Friday afternoon perusal of the service offered the frankly implausible headline 'Liverpool To Sign Man Accused Of Dando Murder.' And as if to prove that every action must have an equal and opposite reaction, he was also amazed to read that 'Police Arrest Gary McAllister.'
