Body Discovered At Co Cork Strand

A body has been found close to Inch
Strand in Co Cork.

Volunteers searching for missing Cork
boy Robert Holohan found the body in a
densely shrubbed area adjacent to a
boreen leading to the strand.

The area is roughly seven miles south
of Midleton. The searchers immediately
raised the alarm and gardaí have
cordoned off the area.

According to a garda spokesperson, an
examination of the body will not take
place until tomorrow.

Robert Holohan disappeared after
leaving his home near Midleton on his
new BMX bicycle eight days ago.

Gardaí received up to 90 new calls
after a televised reconstruction of the
schoolboy's last known movements near
Midleton.

Officers want to speak to three men who
were playing golf at the East Cork Golf
Club on Tuesday, 4 January. They also
want to speak to a man seen in Egan's
Field that afternoon.

Gardaí also seeking information on a
man seen with a small red van in a car
park near Curragh Woods on 4 January

Body discovered 10 miles from Robert Holohan’s home

Volunteers searching for missing schoolboy Robert Holohan today discovered a body near Inch Strand in Cork.

The volunteers spotted a limb protruding from the undergrowth in a densely shrubbed area, around seven miles away from the boy’s home in Midelton.

The Garda incident room in Midleton was contacted at 2.15pm and officers were immediately dispatched to the scene.

The scene has been sealed off. Members of the Garda Technical Bureau are due to arrive.

Superintendent Kevin Donohoe of the Garda Press Office said the body had been discovered following a search by gardai, army personnel and volunteers.

“We have an area at Inch beach cordoned off and we are now commencing a technical examination. It’s lying in an inaccessible area so at this stage I can’t confirm either age or gender,” he said.

Robert Holohan went missing from his home at Ballyedmond in Midleton eight days ago. His BMX bike, which had been given as a Christmas present, was found on the roadside three hours later.
