There are a few guitar shop riffs that are amazing but I have grown to hate the last few years due to hearing them played so so badly in shops......

Enter Sandman would be one, Stairway to Heaven another, Nothing Else Matters etc....

But I would have to say my favourite riff would be Voodoo Chile(Slight Return) what a riff!

Tom Morello has loadsa good riffs too, including Take the Power Back, Killing in the Name and Bulls on Parade simple but very effective.

I still think Hendrix was one of the best when it comes to riffs, Castles made of Sand, Little Wing, Maching Gun, If 6 was 9, Crosstown Traffic, Little Miss Lover, Dolly Dagger, Who Knows, Midnight, Message to Love ahhh loads!

Then we got Zepplin, Kashmir, Whole Lotta Love, Black Dog etc...

So many to choose but I'm still gonna stick with Voodoo Chile!

Dont forget Nigel Tufnel's guitar solo in This Is Spinal Tap

    - to pause mid performance to tune the violin he was using as a bow.
    *sigh* wow!

Gotta say my favourite is about three and a half minutes into Wheels Of Confusion by Black Sabbath, Tony Iommi is a genius, but the riff works because of Geezer's bass line. Gets me every time.

As for the greatest riff? Probably Smoke On The Water, because everyone knows it, everyone, but impossible to say definitively.
