Car mechanics in Blackrock / Booterstown area

    Hi,
    I'm looking for a mechanic in my area (Booterstown / Blackrock / Dun Laoghaire)
    who could fix breaks in my Ford Escort '97. I'm aware of few Ford saloons around, but I really don't want to spend too much money on this old car.

    Whats wrong with them, u can go the kwikfit route for basics.

    There is a backstreet mechanic on Brookfield Terrace in Blackrock that I used to use several years ago that was reliable, can't remember his name atm though.

    There are two issues:

    I see a greasy spot on one of my back wheels. I suspect this to be an oil running out of the main break system.

    Second - related - hand break doesn't work anymore.

    well the rear problem u can fix urself if ur a bit handy. need a new wheel cylinder. the handbreake-the cable must have snapped.

    buy a halfords manual to fix the wheel cylinder. id say the handbrake is a little trikier.

    I don't really see the problem with fixing it on my own.

    Would the Ford saloon be the only place where you can buy wheel cylinder and hand breake cable ?

    what do u mean ford saloon? just ask the motor factor for a wheel cylinder for ur car. and get a haynes manual for it or the saloon equivelent. the cable is probably broken under it. get 2 jacks and jack it up at the back but make sure to put some big bricks under it in case the car slips as otherwise it mite fall on u and crush u. ive heard of several deaths of thishappening and its not a nice way to go so plenty of bricks under each side.

    suppose the yellow pages. the largest and best motor factors are all around tallaght/clondalkin. ie east coast or tallaght auto parts.
