Doubt he'll get another United game for a few months 'cause of all the stick he got after the Arse match. Steve Bennett is ref tomorrow according to rednews.

Hmm i think the match is too close to call, so i'll go for a score draw. I agree with JTG, i have a sneaking feeling Heinze will be sent off as well.

On a side note, no matter what the result is tomorrow, can people try and keep things somewhat civil and talk purely about the match and decisions in the match(and this match only) in this thread afterwards. I don't want this going the way of the Arsenal V Man Utd threads.

I've said before that IMO thats the system that suits United best away to the big teams in England and mist games in Europe.

I agree also that Carroll will be dropped, though I hope he isnt.

Assuming both are fit, which of Giggs or Rooney would you leave out?

If he did go for Fortune, I reckon it'd be Ronaldo who'd find himself benched and both Giggs and Rooney will start.

Ryan Giggs and Rio Ferdinand face late fitness tests ahead of tomorrow’s Premiership clash with Liverpool at Anfield.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has been named Barclays Premiership player of the month for December.

This is going to be a very tight game imo. United are nowhere near the force they were, and despite results 'pool are playing far more constructive football than they were under Houllier. After their shambolic display midweek i'd hope to see nothing less than 100% commitment from them tomorrow.

It's all going to hinge on stopping Gigg's. If we manage that then united become a very one dimensional side. People have stated that the reason for their improved form was Ferdinand's comeback but i believe it all falls at giggs' feet. Having him skin defenders means that united can spread the ball out to the left and every premiership team has then got to be wary of Scholes floating around the edge of the box aswell as watching the strikers and also trying to stop giggs. Far from easy. Without him they play the ball out to Ronaldo who beats three men and then does nothing with it. Teams are begining to get a handle on him, and he seem's to end up at the corner flag a lot these days which is where you want him to be.

I fancy a not fully fit giggs to give us a few problems early on but if we can control him as he tires and maybe give away a few free kicks at the halfway line(nothing wrong with being firm in the challenge!) then after a half hour or so we should be able to take control and thats when Stevie G needs to dominate. Also i'd like to know who came up with the wonderful theory that Gerrard doesn't show up against the big teams? I seem to recall him dominating against united on a few occasions, and he has played Viera off the pitch a few times too. And before Alonso's injury he was threatening to over-run Chelski two weeks ago.

Hyypia is back while Gary Neville is out. Giggs and Ferdinand will face very late fitness tests.

    Here are the squads
Liverpool (from): Dudek, Finnan, Carragher, Hyypia, Pellegrino, Traore, Riise, Luis Garcia, Hamann, Gerrard, Nunez, Warnock, Morientes, Baros, Biscan, Diao, Harrison, Mellor, Sinama-Pongolle.

Man Utd (from): Carroll, Howard, P Neville, Silvestre, Ferdinand, O'Shea, Heinze, Fortune, Ronaldo, Keane, Scholes, Giggs, Djemba-Djemba, Smith, Saha, Rooney.

    My Guess

    Dudek

    ---Finnan--Hyypia--Cara--Traore

    --Luis Garcia--Hamann
    Riise
    Gerrard

    Baros--Sinama-Pongolle

Its just a pity about this
Gerrard named player of the month

Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard has been named Barclay's Player of the Month for December.

The midfield dynamo recovered from a broken metatarsal to inspire Liverpool to fifth place in the Premiership.

During the month 24-year-old Gerrard doubled his goal tally for the season and sparked Liverpool to three successive wins.

His all-action style led Liverpool to wins over Newcastle (3-1), Southampton (1-0) and West Brom (5-0).

    He'll have a crap game now! ;)

    Mike.

God I wouldn't put money on this game, really could go anyway, but with Saha, Rooney, Smith, Giggs and Ronaldo all fit, the pool defence will need to be at their very best.

I'l be borring and go for a draw.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Gerrard arguably the best player in england.
Liverpool, a one one one man team :)

Gerrard has a bad game, Livrepool will lose no matter what.
If he has a good game, they might draw, maybe evne a win. p.s. he's gona a couple of kicks early on :)
Morientes won't start, he hasn't play a game since Monaco properly like, he is not match fit! If he does start I'll be gob smacked and will be happy. Baros is often forced to drop deep, as is Gerrad, when Liverpool don't give service.
This will be a huge problem for Liverpool tomorrow because United take possesion and keep it, and go for long periods of games with the ball, something which is gona frustrate the **** out of gerrard.
Baros is good, and his smart runs will cause trouble, however Rio will deal with them.

    United team will be:

Caroll[ I can't see Howard getting in, unless Fergie has noticed a drop in confidence in Caroll on the training ground. After the spurs incident, I saw Caroll and he was well pissed. If he doesn't play tomorrow, he won't play for United again]

    G/P Neville - Rio - Slyvestre - Heinze

    Ronaldo - Scholes - Keano - Giggs

Rooney - Saha(Fergie loves Saha, is soo happy to get him back, you hear it every time he talks about him, Saha is gona light it up tomorrow, running rings around Liverpool defence)

Do I think United will win? Of course we will
    But its gona be tight.

p.s. I guarantee we're gona get a penalty claim tomorrow, and I think its gona be given :)

Who'd take a United peno? Scholesy has missed a couple, though he's usually good. Rooney? Saha? Henize would probably be deadly, but I'd say he'd have to concede to the forward type players.

Same for Liverpool? Baros last one was dreadful, though his earlier ones were very good. But I wonder would Gerrard demand the responsibility.

I'd let the ref take it.

For Liverpool, I'd give it to Riise or Pongolle

    Mike.

ps just spotted that Ladbrooks have Mori to score at 9/2!

I am one who regulary states this about Gerrard. And I stand by it. Against Chelsea he was very huff and puff, running around a lot, putting in challenges, but not doing very much with the ball. He was over playing it - he needs to learn to keep it simple. He tries the spectacular with the ball far too often, and he isn't that good a passer to do that. He has never dominated against Utd - he scored a cracking goal once, but has yet to dominate. I've never seen him dominate Viera. He's a good player, but nowhere near in the class of Viera or Keane (queue me eating my words by 3 2mw :D ) but at the moment I stand by my guns.

My predicton is a tight game, United sneaking a one nil win. If ferdinand is out(late fitness test) will John O'Shea partner Silvestre again, as in the Chelsea game??

I'd say yes, but I hope not. JOS looked poor in the first half against Chelsea, misplacing passes and headers quite a bit. Tomorrow's a big match and Anfield is not a place to go with a nervous back line.

I'm fairly sure Wes Brown is fit again, and he is the 2nd(3rd?) choice after rio and slyvestre.

Last game, gerrard got injurd almost 15 mins in if I'm mot mistaken?

Heinze used to take PSG's penalties when he played with them. From what I've seen he takes one hell of a penalty...

Finnan is facing a fitness test as he has a hamstring worry, he is a big doubt, big loss if he is out we will have no other cover for right back as Joesmi is still injured, with the form Giggs is in at the moment he could roast us.
As for Liverpool being a one man team with gerard, well whoever says that has not been watching the pool all season, have been playing much better football this season, gerard has got some vital goals but it has been Rafa who has got the team playing, remeber Gerard was out injured for about 2 months.
Had a great xmas and where robbed a result against Chelsea. Alonso is a huge loss tommorow he is the one who makes the Liverpool team tick. I fancy us to get a big win tommorow, Morientas arriving has given the club a huge lift, he will start tommorow and I fancy him to score, I fancy us to win 3-1.

    C'mon the pool!!

If Finnan fails fitness test then Cara could move to Right Back and Pellegrino get his debut! More likely though is Traore in middle and Riise at LB.

    Liverpool 2-1 UTD

Shrek dived for a peno converted by himself, followed by goals by Riise and Gerard

And it was a dive ok! :p

On a side note i think keepers will be crucial in the outcome of this match

In both the Carling cup final against United and when he scored that screamer at Anfield he was immense for Liverpool.

He regularly delivers in the "big games" with goals. He was brilliant against Arsenal this year too. I think he will be good again tomorrow.

I really think Liverpool will sneak this tomorrow. But hey Im a Liverpool fan. Ill go for 2-1, Baros to get on the scoresheet.

rafa hasn't announced his starting eleven today, even to the team.
Usually on a friday (or day before a game) they do shape where they run thru shadow play but today he didn't, probably due to the two new additions. In my opinion he will start morientes up front with baros.
On the earlier subject of peno takers when baros was out earlier on the season for the period where liverpool played arsenal, aston villa etc. on pens for liverpool was an unlikely source but im keepin it to myself cos dont want his odds to go down :D:D:D
whether this is the case now or not i am unaware, i would say baros would be on them with maybe stevey G next in line?

what do you mean 'on a side note', you think this is an arse manu-thread? as talla said this shouldnt turn into a utd-arsenal thing or similar and provoking like that above just de-rails the train, whether intentional or not.

On a side note i ment dudek/kirkland and howard/carroll are known for clangers in these type of games  sigh! do you have sense of humour...did you read The Muppets post...do you have a chip on your shoulder?

The game hasnt even started and this thread is already 5 pages long , if there is any controversial incidents ill be staying well away letting others slog it out, unless of course the ball did cross the line. :)

Myself ill be looking forward to a good game of football hopefully with lots of goals.

    Whats with the IF ;)

I think smemon may have been referring to the term you used to describe the fine Mr. Rooney. Us new ultra sensitive United fans get very upset with such comments if it continues we may need counselling you know.

also, will someone open a new liverpool united thread tomorrow for the match? this will probaly go on for alot more pages before it starts so a new thread would be easier.

    Have 4 bets
W Brown to score first 50-1
R Keane to score first and 2-0 win 125-1.
    S Gerrard sent off - 20-1

    Man United to win
    12 or more corners
