Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Gerrard should be off for that elbow! He took a look before he swung.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,456 ✭✭✭kida

Gerrard shoud have walked for that elbow on Scholes.
The FA have to look at that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,916 ✭✭✭Brian017

Would have being a bit harsh.

  • Moderators, Regional North East Moderators Posts: 12,739 Mod ✭✭✭✭cournioni

Yeah maybe so... But he did take a look, therefore intentional.

    0-1 Ht

My God, Dudek is such a moron. It actually looked like he let it in.
Gerrard to be sent off for that elbow would have been very harsh, I'm not even sure he connected with the elbow. Scholes made a meal of it though going down holding his face.

  • Moderators, Regional North East Moderators Posts: 12,739 Mod ✭✭✭✭cournioni

Nah he definately caught him. It would have been fairly harsh, it wasn't a big swing, but he did catch him with his elbow.

united dominated totally. morientes has showed flashes and rooney hasn't done much apart from the obvious. gerrard is lucky for himself that he didnt connect. and as for the call for liverpool to play behind closed doors cos someone chucked a phone at rooney?????? i hope thats a joke!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,003 ✭✭✭✭The Muppet

Good first half, On the goal , Dudek positioned his hands where he expected the ball to bounce a little off the turf but it just skidded in under them, I don't think it was a howler as the ball is very lively in certains parts of the pitch .

I,m happy with United's performance but the game is far from over, Morientes is a thread especially fro m high balls.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

Gerard did look before the swing, but Scholes made a meal of it, something and nothing really.

Saha is playing very well up there, and Rooney has been very quiet apart from the gift wrapped tied up with a bow goal.

Absolute disgrace the mobile phone thing too.

Morientes has starteed to come in to the game late in the half, but how long can he last?

If United can keep it tight at the back, then it looks well for them, they might even sneak another goal, as I said already, Saha looks really up for it.

The trio in midfield of Scholes, Keane and Fletcher are dominating.

Gerrard should NOT have been sent off in my opinion. I hope the ref lets things go in the second half. There have been a couple of times when he is stopping play.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,013 ✭✭✭✭eirebhoy

Saha is the best player on the pitch so far IMO, everything is going his way and I never seen him control the ball so well.

I bet once Keane gets his 50th goal he'll be scoring for fun after it. :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

If he ever gets it, not as if he is trying too hard or anything, but that shot would have went in 99 times out of a hundred.

  • Moderators, Regional North East Moderators Posts: 12,739 Mod ✭✭✭✭cournioni

The thing I am dreading is this half time. Liverpool now have the chance to come out as a totally different team and United mightn't be ready for that. United have been playing some great football, Keane and Saha in particular IMO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,966 ✭✭✭Jivin Turkey

Exiting game so far, United probably deserve their lead. Keane is going to have a get that goal soon. What a shot. Saha looks very lively again, pace and power (just like Heskey ;) ). The game is far from over though Im sure everyone would agree.

Morientes has shown glimpses, even just getting on the end of crosses. On a whole he will be a very good acquisition, something totally different. I dont think he will have any problem lasting the pace, he hasnt been injured just not playing first team. Also his game isnt about pace and stamina, its more power and intelligence.

As for Gerrard getting sent off? He used his arm to shield Scholes from the ball, he didnt get it above his chest. There is no decision to be made. But I suppose there will always be a few "impartial" people calling for it.

Gerrard needs to get into the game more, maybe if he does Liverpool will start to threaten more.

    Great tackle from Heinze.

Liverpools passing is awful , keep giving it away like that Utd will score on the break.
Constantly passing it to Scholes and Fletcher :?

Garcia and Gerrard are very poor. Garcia especially, completely unsuited to the physical game.

    Saha off Fortune on

Liverpool lost the game in the midfield, they really are missing Alonso and to a lesser extent, Kewell.

    0-1 FT
A deserved win for Utd for me.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

That would have been a great moment for Carra to score.

So again another poor quality game and another Dudek error to seperate the sides. Liverpool really missed Alonso today.

    Match stats
    Possession:
    Liverpool 54%
    Man Utd 46%

    Shots:
    Liverpool 13
    Man Utd 5

    Corners:
    Liverpool 9
    Man Utd 4

    Fouls:
    Liverpool 12
    Man Utd 26

    Bookings:
    Liverpool 2
    Man Utd 4

    Final whistle. 0-1. United win.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

Liverpool should have done much more for 25mins against ten men. They didn't deserve any return from the game at all.

May have been a lucky goal, but United did deserve the win.

London derby later, could be the turning point of the season for United?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,003 ✭✭✭✭The Muppet

Yes, Great Victory for United. Max points against The old enemy you can't ask more than that.

Liverpools passing was abysmal and they created only two shots on target which is very poor for the home team. I thought the ref was very poor. It was by no means a dirty match yet there was a sending off and lots of bookings. He certainly did united no favours.

Only 1 point behind the Gunners now .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,916 ✭✭✭Brian017

    Let's hope so.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

Utd deserved it, Liverpool never threatened them really.
Utd won the midfield battle which effectively won them the match, Liverpool really could have done with Xabi Alonso out there.

HAHA are you ripping the piss? It hit him rather than he hit the ball...Sublime is way too OTT.

In fairness, I think the ref did a good job. Brown was so late it was not even funny. My only concern as Andy Gray said is that he may have been influenced by the crowd since he was originally distraced by the first foul commited by Silvestre but Brown deserved to go.

PS: Nunez looked like an angry mofo.

Deserved win for Utd. They were by far the better team even with 10 men. Defending was amazing. Heinze is an absolute gem.

Good save but nothing special as it was straigh at him. That said he had an excellent game today and dominated his area. He fielded some hig balls as well which was good to see.

In both the Carling cup final against United and when he scored that screamer at Anfield he was immense for Liverpool.

He regularly delivers in the "big games" with goals. He was brilliant against Arsenal this year too. I think he will be good again tomorrow.

I really think Liverpool will sneak this tomorrow. But hey Im a Liverpool fan. Ill go for 2-1, Baros to get on the scoresheet.
Apparently he was playing today. lol. I saw his name on the team sheet at least. That is why he cannot yet be named in the same breath as Keane/Viera. Look how Keane bossed that game today, along with Scholes. That is what Gerrard DOES NOT do in the big games.

Deserved win for Utd today - Liverpool didn't do enough throughout the game. Bad goal to give away too, it was a good strike but terrible goalkeeping. Of all the gits to score it too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,617 ✭✭✭talla

United deserved the win, Liverpools midfield was awful. Scholes, Keane and Heinze were the best players on the pitch by a long way. I couldnt understand why Rise was taken off, i thought he was Liverpools best player today and causing the only danger, should have taken off Garcia.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,013 ✭✭✭✭eirebhoy

I suppose they couldn't decide a man of the match?

Can't wait for the Chelsea match BTW. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

Jamie Carragher was Liverpool's best player imo.

What the hell are you talking about - Gerard's arm goes across Sholes chest and Scholes does a Rivaldo and goes down holding his face!

Henize... What a player. Never put a foot wrong today.

Did O'Shea get a touch today? Fergie and Sharpe singled him out as being very good. Didn't even notice him other than when Baros got around him.
