GPS Global positioning satellite is for finding the location of someone/something by sending data from reciever/transmitter on the ground up to a satellite in space.

GPRS is a way of sending data on mobile phones, picture messages etc.

But isn't GPS used in mobiles too?

Mobiles in the US have a GPS chip so their exact location can be traced easily. They share the same letters but have nothing in common.

Some mobiles can, but it would be a feature on the much more expensive handsets.

Despite the similarities, the two acronyms are in no way related, and don't use anything even close to the same type of technology.

    Thanking you for replies!

One follow up - is GPRS the same as 3G?

    Nope!
    GPRS is essentially 2.5G.

3G is the next step up from GPRS.
