Recommend Surround Sound

looking for a recommendation for a surround sound system. I've bought a Phillips 630 DVD player, didn't go with surround/dvd bundle because I wanted this model. Power City dude said it would be tricky to get surround sound on it's own. Can anyone recommend a half decent surround system for a budget price?
