XBox Mod Chip?

I'm thinking of getting the XBox modded so I can load it up with XBMC and watch all my movies on the TV. My only problem now is figuring out which chip to use to mod it and were to get it from....I'm not really in the mood for major hardware modifications of the XBox I want something quick, easy and simple. I don't want to solder unless I really need to because I don't have the equipment. If anyone here could suggest a chip and a place to get it I would be grateful. Also any links to hints/guides to modding the XBox for XBMC would be useful, all suggestions and comments are welcome.

That's what I have been doing - for the last few hours I've been reading up on this stuff. It seems I have an XBox v 1.4 ( I will check tommorow by opening it ) As I'm not in the mood for soldering and I'm not certain that I do not have a version 1.6 I'm either going to get the SpiderChip or the Xecuter 2.6 CE with Xapter....I'm not certain which I'll go for.

i put an executor 3 into mine last week - it was easy enough. Then you have to make a boot disk and then ftp into the xbox to set up the new dashboard. If you want a quick and easy otpion would you not just send it off to modchipireland or somewhere like that who chip and install everything for you?

What you did seems to be the route I am going to follow. As for someone else doing it......no, I'm not some useless pansy, I want to do it myself so I understand how chipping an XBox works and so I can fix any problems myself. I just don't want to buy soldering equipment I'll never use more then once that's why I'm doing it solderless.

ah vg! Thats what I wanted to. I was really surprised to see how much like a pc it is and how simple it was! Just read up on tutorials etc - it sounds complicated but it's really easy. Check out the tutorials on www.xbox-scene.com - I got everything I needed to do from here. As well as the chip you'll need a cd-rw to put the bootdisk info on...I got my chip from www.kanection.co.uk

Yes it's just a PC in a [strike]sheeps[/strike] consoles clothes that's why I think I should be able to manage it OK, I've read up on the CD-RW issue. Basically all I'm waiting for is tommorow when I get my friends torx set to open up this baby and make sure it's a 1.4 so I can order an Xecuter 2.6CE with adapter biggrin.gif

I've a spare xbit which is solderless and flashable via usb if you're interested send me a pm.

on the other side don't get a spiderchip it's more geared to 1.6 - i do have the no solder pins for an x2 floating around somewhere - if you can wait a few days i'll see if i can find them. they're no use to me so you're welcome to them.

if you've had it for a while i'd say you'll have a 1.4 or below - as for the cdrw thing - once you've opened up the xbox if you find you've a samsung or philips drive you'll more than likely get away with a cd-r or put the stuff onto a dvd-r instead

the modding thread on games has gotten rather bulky with all the replies

It's cool elmer I went ahead and ordered the spiderchip ( £19 - sterling nearly £10 cheaper then the X2 with solderless adapter ) I think it will be OK, I have either a version 1.4 or 1.5 - it makes no difference to me as the spider is solderless for all of them and for those two versions requires only one wire stuck into the d0 hole. I've been looking over the documentation on the spiderchip website and it seems easy enough to mod. Now all I have to do is find an Exov BIOS and Dashboard and I should be fine smile.gif

Got it working :) First time around I bought a spiderchip for £20 and stuck it in in about 5 mins. Then I tried flashing it with a BIOS I got from an xbox scene IRC channel I went in to the bios/hacked folder of their FTP server ( mad sense to me I was looking for a hacked M$ BIOS ) of course "hacked" meant it was ****ed. Flashed the chip and lost it  The idiots have now removed the hacked directory ( I obviously wasn't the only one who made this mistake ) So I just looked around for a way of fixing it and found out the Xecuter 2 programmer can flash the spiderchip. Bought that with an Xecuter 2 chip in case the spider was screwed flashed it with the right BIOS and was busy installing XBMC in ten minutes :D Use Slayer's auto install disc, very easy to use. Ask if you have any Q's :)

Try Mrmodchips and get the Spiderchip 1.1. First try and find out what version Xbox you have go to xbox scene and see what version you have.
