Ripwave: Do I need to get something installed?

I am thinking of going with the IBB option, the main reasons being the uncapped downloads and the 'no phone line needed' thing!

I was sure that an engineer had to install an antenna on my roof for Ripwave, but a friend was telling me that there's just something you plug into your computer?

You have to get the antenna installed for Breeze, though, right?

(I'm not too bothered about the installation thing, as we've a DIT student in the house!)

Ripwave is just a modem the size of 2 dvd boxs that
you just leave near a window.

Breeze requires the antenna on your roof.

How does a DIT student help? ;)

Oh eye, for some strange reason I read your post as if a DIT student helped the actual install process.Infact it's worded that way. ;)

    - how near a window does it need to be?
or how long can cables be before this affects quality?

Well i put a 15 metre cable on my modem and put it on little boxes
so that it was as high and as close to the window as possible.

I also made a custom dish to focus the signal into my modem and to
also help reflect the signal back in the direction of the mast. I made a
thread about it. It should show up in a search of boards.ie
