They would have to bring in a gym after I leave the place - what room is this new gym in?

its down by the pool, just after the break in the building that leads to the back of the college. it doesn't seem bad at all, may have to give it a look in after the exams

Had a quick look in the other day - seem like everything's very packed together and couldn't see any free weights - they appear to have a couple of Concept2 rowers which is good though...

Nothing wrong with that... :D ... So what are the facilities like up there? The only thing putting me off going to DIT, despite its ease of access, is the whole disjointed, all over the shop kind of place it is. I'll be in either Kevin Street or Bolton Street. I hear they use Belvedere's facilities for indoor sports, am I right? And is there a college vibe?

Depends on what course you're doing - try for one in Kevin St - quite a few people leave Bolton st to come down to kevin st. THere's a pool, a gym, a canteen etc. Plus its within 5 minutes of the city centre...

For rock climbimg dit uses that community centre on cathal bruagha st - can't remember the name and for the likes of frisbee it uses belvedere.

Vibe...is good! Just check out the rag trip...

What kind of free weights equipment is available? For example, benches, squat racks, dumbbells etc

Yeah it is disjointed, sometimes it appears unorganised, isolated and unprofessional - they lecturers are generally excellent though and as good as I've seen anywhere.

The gym is a good move, I would have liked to have one there when I was in kst (kevin street).

However, NOBODY and I mean NOBODY parties harder than DIT students (I'm in UCD now). The class parties are interesting to say the least. This is helped by being surrounded by pubs and clubs.

Bit of advice - 1. Join Clubs and Soc's, 2. Attend all your lectures, 3. Get to know everybody in your class. 4. Join Clubs and Soc's!

I have to second that. Go on your induction week - get to know everyone. You're going to spend the next three or four years with these people... If everyone is heading out some night go out - you don't need a reason! As for the lectures...Easter is the usual catch up time!

EDIT Forgot the most important thing - the local cusine. Camden st has what is possibly the worlds best spar ever - you can walk out of there with a toasted sandwich complete with multiple meat and deli toppins and see change from 4 euro. For sit down food there's always flannery's (beside spar as it happens!)

Then at night you can start off in the corner house on the corner of kevin st and camden st moving swifty to the casino beside spar!

Never really use the free weights myself but there are benches, a few shelves of dumbbells don't know what a squat rack is! Nothing to write home about being kind of small but if you go at some time other than lunch time it's usually quiet.
