even though i backed cool ground - 25/1 there has to be something bigger

was it nortons coin or did he win a national at a big price - before my time whatever way :)

Laytown is county meath. Im sure of that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,825 ✭✭✭Healio

Yes it was Norton's coin, 100/1

The best trivia question of all....Why do people back long odds on shots in novice hurdles/chases?

Long odds on shots...not odds against.

I personally do it for the buzz, i would say those people see 100/1 shots as a get rich quick scheme.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,937 ✭✭✭fade2black

No, what i mean is why do people back horses...for example Dusky Warbler was 1-3 in a novice hurdle the other day....people backed him....WHY??

Not a trivia question. If all those odds on shot backers are so idiotic, get set up on an exchange and make your fortune by laying the same horses.

The best horse racing trivia question, and possibly the best trivia question of all time follows. You will impress your friends and take money off your enemies with this one. Its a doozie?

Name the horse that started favourite for the Prix de l'Arc in October (Longchamp), and in the following March finished unplaced in Cheltenham's Triumph Hurdle at odds of 100/1?

Clue: Its not as far back as you might think.

There is a slight trick in the question, but only slight, and the question is accurate. If no one gets the answer, ill post it up tomorrow.

    Easier question,

Which horse is officially the second best steeplechaser ever, behind Arkle?

what famous jump horse did lester piggott ride to victory in a flat race ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,428 ✭✭✭Morgans

    That would be Red Rum.

    Best Mate?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 882 ✭✭✭fr wishy washy

the first lady jockey to beat lester piggott in photo finish ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,428 ✭✭✭Morgans

You would think so sometimes Hobart, given the media attention that he receives, but Best Mate is the fifth best chaser running at the moment (Moscow Flyer, Azertyuiop, Well Chief, and Kicking King rated higher) and at his very best, he would roughly between the 15th and 20th best steeplechasers since ratigns began. Arkle was rated 212. Best Mate best would have him around 180 - not sure if he actually topped 180. Meaning that on paper, arkle could give Best Mate two stone and still win.

Fr Wishy Washy, that is a cracker of a question. My guess, and it is only a guess, would be Alex Greaves.
