Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So, the draw for the North / South Cup is being made today.

From the eL we have Shelbourne FC, Cork City FC  and Longford Town

From the Irish League we have Linfield, Portadown and Glentoran.

Cork to be the loan EL team in one group and Portadown the other, you'll see. :)

You are probably right there eirebhoy, but by that statement I take it you are writing off Linfield and Glentoran?

I wouldn't be so quick, as we saw with Shelbourne in the Summer, the fact that they were half way through their season counted for a lot against the teams they faced. It will be that situation in reverse for the eL teams.

Any news on the draw yet?

It probably wasn't very clear but I was predicting which teams would be drawn with each other. :)

I know what you were saying, that Cork and Shels will be drawn in seperate groups, yeah?

    Group 1
    Shels
    Cork City
    Portadown

    Group 2
    Longford
    Linfield
    Glentoran

City's first game v Shels at Turners Cross March 29th :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

Shels in a group with CVFC, bring it on!

Should be a straight fight between them as to who makes the final.

Portadown are probably the weakest of the IL teams.

Same for the other group, fight between Linfield and Glentoran to see who playes Shels :D in the final.

    Come on Shels.

I can see City being in the final for this one, ye boys better watch out it will be a good one

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

    I'll predict it now.

Shels -v- Glentoran in the final.

CVFC to finish bottom of the group.

And you wonder why $he£$ are hated by every other team in the EL....

I don't wonder that at all. I know from your post just there, it is jealousy.

By the way, why has Dolan not signed a new contract. Reckon he'll bound off to Limerick?

    Shels - Linfield final.

You honestly think people hate Shelbourne purely out of "jealousy"? If that were the case everyone would stop supporting their own teams, and start supporting Shelbourne. But judging by the 800 people that turned up for your first league game after the Deportivo First Leg, that's not the case.

    City - Glentoran final.
City v Shels should be on Setanta Sports.

Cork Longford final, longford to win everyone seems to be forgetting their leet cup skills.

Cant say Im happy with the draw, but at least now, City will get to knock out Shels en-route to the final. I literally know nothing about Portadown apart from they are fully amatuer.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

    Why are you not happy?

    Scared of Shels perhaps?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,296 ✭✭✭✭gimmick

No, just annoyed that Ollie Byrne will nbe in Cork more than we already though :( .

Pissed off, as I didnt want Portadown. I hear that they dont have the nicest of fans. Also, becasue there is a new service operating between Cork and Belfast. It would have been handy to use that to get to the away games.

Scared of Shels? Dont make me laugh. At least ye will know early on that City werent the pushovers of last season.

I just cant wait for the usual annual trip to tolka park when i get to sing "...Your supposed to be at home!!...."

It only happens once or twice a year but now I can do it that one extra time.
    Oh happy days. :)

Will Setanta be making us pay to see these games? :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

You could always go to them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,483 ✭✭✭Töpher

I will be going to all the ones I can, but I'd like to see games like Cork and Portadown, and being dublin based, won't be heading to them! Will it be subscription service by then is all I meant?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

    Sorry, I was being fecetious.

I don't know if the Setanta will be sub by then, bastards better not be.

I'm currently in work booking off the five relevant dates for Shels.

It'll be some trip to Portadown I'd say, and to the village too.

Does anyone know where the final is being held.

Windsor Park anyone

And here is a link to the rules etc for the tournament.

Couple of interesting things from that :
    RULES wrote:
    Match day squads/substitutions
Maximum of Seven (7) substitutes allowed on bench. Three (3) plus
One (1) Goalkeeper substitutions may be made.

    and
    RULES wrote:
    Final Venue
In the South unless two Northern clubs reach the Final. Venue will be at the sole discretion of the Tournament Committee - clubs will be consulted in good faith.

No they're on Setanta's Irish channel, its not possible for them to charge, it would be like RTE or TV3 charging us to watch a match. :)

Do you not have the basic 16 channel NTL package? Setanta is on that now.

And it's been, oh, two years or so since the villagers beat us so this'll be a walk in the park ;)

I reckon the winner of group 2 wins the tournament, Longford may have cup skills but not against teams from outside ROI so they're screwed. The final will be some event though. Matches being played monday/tuesday isn't the best though.

Aye Kdjak, you're a bloody Dub, you definitely should have Setanta. Its where Nickelodeon used to be.

Got rid of NTL 3 years ago only have Sky.

    I be up for longford.
May even head down to the Flansiro for their home game.

Obviously Shels to lose every game would be nice.

I get it for free as does everyone I've asked around my area incuding two of my mates (Macken St, Grand Canal St), don't ask me why, I've never even seen an NTL bill. :)

We have no NTL anything , not even boxes in the house.

I cancelled one year they took no notice and expected me to pay for a year even tho i had cancelled. We had an argument, court was visited we wont be getting ntl back anytime soon.
Havent missed it in the slightest.

Ya, I was on to see what ye're reaction to the draw was. It wasn't surprising, just the usual "we are great" rubbish.

I dont post on thers peoples forums generally. There are far too many City muppets who do that, giving the rest of us a bad name. You should see the waterford and Shams sites before we play them. All our keyboard warriors are out in force.

I know that, some complete morons, but I suppose all clubs are the same.

So, what would be the best pub to go to then?
