Anyone know about poker games in galway, or anyone interested in home games. Need a nice student sized game, i.e. don't need to sell a kidney to play (not that they would take it any way)
    Cheers

Your coming hasd just doubled the number of forum readers who are in Galway.

There is a €50 in freezeout held in Claregalway once a month, I think the local football team runs it, and it's generally held on a Thursday night, in the middle of the month. I've been threatening to play in this for a while, but I know of noone else who does, which makes me nervous.

I am currently trying to organise a home game for lowish stakes. (I'm thinking a cash game and one or two single table tourneys with a low buy in and only one top-up, we can play a bigger one for the higher rollers). You'll need to be able to travel, as I live 20-25 minutes outside the city.

As soon as I can get 6 people for a night, we're good to go.
The terrible pity is that the other half is gone this Saturday night, so I have an empty house that sleeps half a dozen, a big table, a fridge of beer, 11.5g chips, WPT cards, and nobody to play with. The situation is crying out for a game.

EH?! I'm a Dub (mostly!)... Jaden will almost certainly call you a muppet now. Dont worry, its partly a sign of affection. Partly.

Castlebar is 45 mins from me, send me details girly man! But kindly remember that both Al and Dav excpect sexual favours in return for a place to sleep. Ask Ser.....

Anyway, cmon down tomorrow, and scope out the West. You'll need a car, but I'll supply the rest.

As for moving to Dublin, no thanks. We real Dubs (the ones without culchie parent or grandparents) don't need to live there to consider themselves true blue, muppet boy.

I like my quality of lifestyle, if I can just find some people who play Poker. So, as they say on "The price is right":

    COME ON DOWN!

Btw Jaden, there's a regular weekly 50 game in Galway. Bloke called Fintan runs it (in the casino thats also in Galway). How have you not heard about it? I'll root out the details, I have them somewhere...

You're taking your life in your hands Dev coming to Castlebar - we'll leave you penniless (or should that be centless)!! It's a long walk to Breaffy you know (assuming you will be availing of hospitality a la Kharn). I'm looking forward to the game.

Neil is sh1t at poker, nearly as bad as he was at Q2 (which is ghey). The only reason he is feared is because of the bad beats he can inflict by calling your KK all in with 6,5os.

Where are the details for this tourney?

Look for a thread here with "Mayo" in it, it should be there.
Dav knows all about it, he found the thread here too.

After the last tournament in Castlebar (2 weeks ago), there was a savage cash game which I had to be held back from. The local legend 'Rocky' Moran was in situe which is enough to scare off the hardened of players, not because of his playing ability, it's more to do with the endless supply of large denomination notes which can be produced from several pockets on his person. If you're around on the Thursday night, there's a hold'em game in the Castle Inn. €50 per game, winner normally takes €350 and 2nd takes their own €50 back. Usually get 2 games in a night.

What a terrible situation that needs to be rectified.
Where about are you....I too am 20 mins outside town..which side are you

Just heard last night that there are going to be weekly (wed night I think) €50+€5 Multis starting in the westwood in galway. Might take a look at that.

Does anyone here play on Ultimate Bet? Moved there from VC recently, and am pretty impressed, even though I think the standard is higher. Have been playing there for the past 2 monts and have never seen another irish person.

There's an article and ad in yesterday's Advertiser for a poker event in the Westwood starting next week. The story is online at http://www.galwayadvertiser.com/dws/story.tpl?inc=2005/01/27/news/55503.html

I'm almost tempted to go down for it as my parents have a place nearby.

I was at a poker tournament at the college last night that was promoting the westwood game. I am very tempted to go down as well. It says in the article that it is a freezeout(which would be nice), but I though they said last night that there was rebuys. Anyone know one way or another?
    cheers

I'll be down for the 250 game. Might come down for the 50 game to see if I can win a ticket.

The one thing that's not clear from the ad or the article is how many satellite games are in the Westwood. Are there several, starting on the week of 2 February or is the Galway game the first of a series of regional events i.e. 2 Feb in Galway, 9 Feb in Cork etc.

I think all the sats are in Galway. Dont quote me on that but I'll try and find out for you.

I play on UB a good bit John, user name Y2JP. You'll usually find me at the $1/$2 PL Omaha cash games or in the Omaha tourneys. I also partake in a few $30 MTTs or STTs in that Holdem game and at the 50c/$1 Triple Draw when I'm feeling particularly sick and twisted!! Not really many other Irish knocking about, Dave1978 is the only one I can think of off the top of my head, he'd play the $500+$50 (Krazy Kanuk Tourney) on Sundays, good player. Although its rumoured that a certain Dragon, not small, has been floating around UB lately!

Prob. Will not see you in those games JP, usually play smaller games 25c/50c NL or $10 STT, still have a lot to learn, and unfortunately don't have the cash to flash around at the moment.

will probably check out the westwood one night and give it a go and then do a hermit for the rest of the week to save the cash.

Thanks for all the replies, sure makes a nice difference from rec.gambling.poker where there is very little help offered and ALOT of ignorant/rude/arrogant people
