    Ok Scenario,

    A client of ours shares an IP range with numerous other companies in the same serviced office, so each company can utilise the broadband connection.

    They'd like to protect their files and access to their pcs from other companies, but allow easy access from computers in their company to shares etc.

    They don't have a machine that will run a windows domain server - a linux domain server may be an option (if easy to install!) - is there any other way of doing it? Like firewall software to only allow certain names as opposed to certain IP's (it's DHCP)??

    ANy suggestions welcomed!

    ok,
    You could put a firewall of any sorts between the two networks. Assign an IP to the external side that you are using now. E.g. 192.168.1.1, now on the internal side of the firewall put 10.0.0.1 and have dhcp assign your side of the network with 10.0.0.x addresses. Turn on NAT and bobs your auntie. Cheap hardware firewalls are fine if you dont want the hassle of building a machine, i suggest www.zyxel.com as these are cheap and do the job, look at ZyWall 2. Just ensure whatever firewall you go for has ethernet connections on LAN and WAN.

    Other than this all your machines are wide open.
