    Hi,
www.poker.ie has been recently relaunched and hopefully we will be able to get sponsorship/advertisers on the site. Does anyone know the typical price paid by advertisers per hundred visitors or per thousand etc? Would most advertisers base it on these stats? Should I wait for advertisers to seek me or should I propose advertising space to them?

Any help from people with experience and knowledge in this area would be much appreciated,

    Thanks!

what about google adsense - no effort in trying to recruit advertisers, etc.

Do Google decide how much to pay or is there a set rate for every site? Any idea what it is? thanks!

Not sure if Google's adsense can be used on gambling sites.

The big three questions for any advertiser are:

Traffic: Numbers of actual users rather than spiders and scrapers.

Demographics: Do these people have money and what do they spend it on?

Niche: Why should advertisers advertise on your site and not another one?

You've got to be able to answer these questions. If your site has no real traffic yet, it is perhaps a better thing to look for sponsorship rather than ordinary adverts.

    Regards...jmcc

I remember talking to a marketing guy a few months ago, everything depending on the ad and the site, but a rule of thumb, say an ad the size of the one in your sig. should generate between $500 and $1000 per 100,000 impressions.

Most advertisers and marketers would generally have them served from their own or an independent adserver so they can gauge impressions and click through ratios etc. and base the value of the ad on that.

take a look at adbrite.com, you can have a look at what others charge there and then setup your own account.

Oh I wish - I'd be loaded! StatCounter get 500,000 banner impressions a day!

The genereral advertising standard is CPM which is cost per 1,000 impressions. You'd need a CPM of $5 to $10 to generate $500 and $1,000 and those figures haven't been seen since the pre-1999 days.

But then there is a whole different story with text links, link popularity and everything else these days. And if he is targetting really high CPC google adsense ads then I wouldn't be suprised if he could make $5 and $10 CPM.

But generally it would be very hard to achieve that, and you're talking more about $0.30 - $0.60 CPM if you are lucky!

If you find some poker related affiliate deal you could do very nicely.

SEO's recommend paying a few bucks a month for a small text off of a page which has a PR of 7, Statcounter is up at PR 9, nice work getting to 9.

Sorry for not being clear, but if you intend to sell ads of your site, theses are terms you will become accustom to.

SEO: Search Engine Optimisation, these are guys who specialise is getting your site top ranked on search engines for various keywords. There is a lot you could do yourself, but if you are really serious about getting your site up there hire one of these guys. There is a couple that post on these boards regularly.

    CPM: Cost per thousand

    CTR: Click through ratio

CPC: Cost Per Click, in the post above I mentioned an adserver, if you are displaying other people’s ads on your site you should consider maybe setting one up. This way one of your ad clients would pay a small setup fee and then pay you every time that ad is clicked. Your client would have a login into his account like this one http://ads.xviper.com, he could see the amount of times the ad was show compared to the amount of times it was clicked. The adserver will then generate his monthly bill.

Google Ads is (just a big ad server) a system of displaying ads on your site, all the site owner has to do is place a small java script on his site ad Google do the rest.

If your site really takes off, big gambling sites would probably prefer the adserver method because they wouldn’t be restricted to Google rules.
