Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Wifi upgrading crashing computer

Have a pci wireless card - a U S Robotics card - for my desktop; have had it a while but only installing it now. Can create a network to laptop running the same make / model of pc card. Speed shows up as 54Mb - as the box says - so OK. Now read there's an upgrade to 125Mb, downloaded the upgrade, read the instructions on the USR website - remove old driver software - and also took out card as original instructions say install card after driver installation. Installed new 125Mb driver and then installed card.

Have tried installing card many times, but having problems. It only works fine when no shutdown takes place - but when I shut down computer, say for the night and bootup again, I'm either told "No card found" (hovering over wireless icon in bottom right of screen) and then I'm faced with a blue screen very soon after bootup. I'm running Windows 98SE if that matters re the 125Mb upgrade. There has been another upgrade inbetween the original 54Mb driver and 125Mb driver, but I have not downloaded this as part of the instructions is for old drivers to be removed, so have decided to jump direct to 125Mb driver as if I'm just buying the kit today with the most up-to-date driver.

I have removed the new 125Mb driver and the card and then reinstalled everything using the original driver CD and all works great at 54Mb = Card is fine / pci slot is fine / driver is fine.

Also I'm completely lost on the various security settings - WEP / WPA etc. Also do I need long or short preamble? How do I decide which I need? etc, etc.

Fairly new to this, so non-tech speak would be welcome.

    Many thanks,

    HPMan
