How to enable Broadband in my Area?

    Hi everyone.

Ive recently moved address to a more populated area. Within the past 6-8 months, a large housing estate was built opposite my house with future plans to expand. It is 50 metres from the main New Ross to Wexford road. As far as I know there is a telephone exchange about 100 metres from my house.

The thing is, our area is not enabled for broadband yet. How do I get Eircom's attention so they will enable our area for Broadband?

    Thanks.

you could try the DSL Trigger site on eircom.ie
The eircom broadband trigger number is a fixed number between 200 and 500. This is the number of votes required for your site to be broadband enabled.

The Eircom trigger scheme is viewed by many on these boards as a farce, the levels they tend to set are unrealistically high. For example one village near where I live has a trigger level of 400, yet there are only around 650 households in the entire area.

Eircom are due to announce the next tranche of exchanges that they will be upgrading for DSL in the coming few weeks. You might be lucky and your exchange could be on the list. If it isn't then you have a couple of options. The first is to pester Eircom by contacting the senior management and showing them that there is demand in your area for BB.

The second is to put to-gether a Group Boradband Scheme and entince an ISP into the area by showing them the demand, and by pointing out that Noel and his mates at the DCMNR are giving grants for this. You'll need around 40 expressions of interest before an ISP will be interested, but I have heard of schemes with only 25 users getting approval.

    Good Luck

    Hi Loobz,

You interested in the Wireless Option ?
    If so, check out http://www.irishwan.org/board/

There is good coverage in the New Ross area.
Post to SEW Forum for info etc.

snoopdog, there's no rights to buy. What you're talking about is Local Loop Unbundling and it's a normal service eircom have to provide like any other (in the business sense). Smart are due to announce LLU services in the next week or two, but it's extremely unlikely that they'll be in any exchanges that aren't already serving dsl.

I have been in contact with Brendan about that. Im not sure if I want a wireless connection. The reason being the signal can drop a lot, so I hear (not good for gaming). If you can weigh up the pros and cons for me I will think hard about it. Any info appreciated. Thanks Skybird ;)
