I understand that visibility can be great off the west coast in the summer, but how good does visibility get off the east coast ? And when does the season proper start ?

    thanks,

Can't speak for all of the east coast, but in Dublin the visibility varies from about 8 metres down to zero if there's been a storm or something. The places I've been on the west coast have tended to be a lot better more like 15 metres a lot of the time.

At the moment I'm led to believe the Dublin vis is great, not much plankton life helps there, however you'll find it's about 5 degrees :)

Clubs/dive centres seem to start diving as early as March, but it'll still be pretty cold!

http://www.dalkeyscubadivers.com/ (my club) dive out of Dun Laoghaire, as well as several other clubs. Have a look at http://www.scubaireland.com/dublin_south.htm for a full list.
