The games in Quirkies are terrible. If they opened up a retro corner, I might be tempted back into the place.....

Forgive me but, why dont you just save your cash and buy a home console of some sort?

I get bored of Quirkeys and their "same old, same old" **** after about 20 minutes. There's only so many times you can play their ageing selection of pap before the realisation that your pissing your money away hits you in the face like the previously alluded to stream of urine.

You cant win hundreds at home on a console. ;)

    that place is expensive.

No, but you can save hundreds. Those play-for-cash arcade games are so ridiculously unbalanced that I'd be amazed if you came out with more than you went in with.

Star & Dawsons in Bray is pretty good for the up to date arcade machines

There are two reasons I keep coming back to Quirkies: Virtua Cop 3 and Outrun 2: Special Tours.

Oh baby, Special Tours is so much better than normal Outrun 2/Xbox Outrun 2 its not funny. Especially on the big hi def screen.

To get a genuinely good arcade scene in Dublin the games would have to be priced at 40cent or 3 games for a euro. Something somewhat equivalent to what people pay in Asia. That would get people doing challenges on Tekken 5 (and maybe SF3: Third Strike and King of the Fighters 20XX if they had them). But you're not going to get regular competitive players unless its cheap enough. I'm perfectly happy to spend 10 euro to play an arcade game for a couple of hours even if I have it at home. That is if there's a social element.

Consoles/arcades are like music cd/live performance. Sure a CD is cheaper but sharing the experience with like minded people that makes it irreplaceable. But Western arcade operators always seem to go for gimmicky games and high prices to attract shoppers and tourists rather than the bread-and-butter-gaming that creates a more dedicated following.

I mean, just think if Quirkies set a date for a Tekken tournament and promoted it properly. They could drum up a huge audience for the game. But they don't see the potential. They probably just sitting on that huge premises.. probably worth 50 million. Who gives a **** about a few gamers credits.

still in the USA right now tekken 5 regionals are taking place and thousands are attendin
    same in japan
the korean nationals have already happened

    exactly, well said.
in singapore the had this card at the arcade you buy for 3.40 $ i think and you get 10 or so credits on it !
it does end up being expensive if you spend alot of time playing there, 10 euro a game. And theres this tokyo police chase game, it lasts 20 seconds !
