All you guys saying he's going to be banned is contributiing to the board how exactly, surly if none of you had commented, then we wouldn't have anythign other than silly names in the poll, he might have started the fire, but you kept it going, so whos worse?

I think Utd will go the furthest unsuprisingly :)

I think Liverpool could well go through, if Gerrard wins the game that is. Morientes likes his european goals.
I think Arsenal are the English team most likely to go out in the next round, that said, if they continue the form they showed against Villa they will win. Their defense is back to full strength by then, and they should be able to put out their best team. Bayern are a tough opponent. If they win it, they could go far, I think however they would lose to Chelsea or Utd in a match, an thus probably won't go the furthest.

I originally thought Chelsea were going to lose to Barca, and I'm much more sure of it now because of Robbens injury. They have to change system, so we'll see how that works out, and maybe it will work out well.
However I don't htink they will be able to score against Barca away, and might get one at home.
Either way, I think Barca will score against them a couple of times, and put them out.

I think Utd will win against AC Milan at home, and get a goalless or scored draw away.
I'm fairly sure we're going to concede against them at home, but I think we'll beat them, and I think we can score in both games.
Van Nist is top scorer in this competition, and once hes back he's gona get at least two goals against these guys, hopefully in the away match but i'll live with it at home :)

    Thena gain, I'm a bit biased :)

Morientes isnt eligble to play having already played for madrid.

Barca are looking shakey aswell. Lost to Atheletico 2-0 on sunday, Both teams will be under pressure to win, should make it exciting.

AC and united are both gaining ground in their respectivel eagues aswell so they both should be on form going into the matches. Cant wait for the matches.

Liverpool should get through, seem to be coming good as of late. still tough though.

It all depends on which Arsenal turns up for their match. If they have one of their typical European performances they will lose.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,263 ✭✭✭Caesar_Bojangle

Phb, Morientes is cup tied so he won't be eligible, unfortunately.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Sighs.. okay I'll take this seriously. Liverpool to draw with Bayer Laverkusen dispite not having Gerrard for first leg, Chelsea get stuffed by Barca non-shock, Arsenal to flatter to decieve and draw. Man Utd wont have RVN back in time for first leg so loose 2-1 if not 3-1.

Liverpool will beat Bayer over the two legs, Chelsea will go out, Arsenal will not get the better of Bayern Munich dispite BM not being what they were.
Man Utd scrap past Milan on away goals.

Liverpool draw Man Utd in semi finals!!!!!!!

Have to agree with you... getting the right form at the right time... the ****es ;)

Chelsea - Without Robben, i doubt they are the same force. Maybe Joe Cole will get his chance and shine.

Liverpool dont have the team.. :( and Arsenal and european dont mix.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,982 ✭✭✭Big Ears

Chelsea to beat Barca and go out in quarters against some Italian team .(1-0 on aggregate)

United to hold Milan at home and get Mullerd away (4-1 Milan on agg)

Liverpool to lose on away goals to Bayer (0-0 away 2-2 at home)

Arsenal to reach final and lose . (3-2 agg victory over Bayern)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Gee, funny predictions there, of all the english teams I think arsenal are least likely to win, and for you you think they are most likely.

I actually think have Arsenal have the best chance of winning. Bayern aren't the best of teams and are certainly far weaker than Milan and Barca (unless they've changed considerably since last season when they were in Celtic's group). Other than the United match, Arsenal have shown they are back to their best (in the league at least) and I'd be suprised if they failed to win. Although we've seen on a few occasions that Arsenal are a different team in Europe which no doubt is down to phsychology (they slaughered Rosenborg in their last game).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,126 ✭✭✭Gileadi

rosenborg arent really a quality opposition though in fairness

what i see happening is united going out being beaten convincingly in the san siro, arsenal to scrape through, liverpool to go through comfortably enough to everybodies shock and ill reserve my chelsea opinion until i hear more on robbens condition

much better draws than last years<on paper atleast>,so many good matches ahead :D

I may be slightly Biased but United are playing great football at the moment and the certainly have a good chance of going through. Arsenal will also be too good for Bayern if they play to their best. Chelsea have a really tough game and I would give them less of a chance to go through b it's certainly not a forgone conclusion . Liverpool have the easiest match and they will progress IMO. I wouldn't be surprised if they all went through but to do so they will all have to perform to near their best on the night. I would be delighted if that happened.

Utd would be favourites to not go tru , others should get tru , would have said Chelsea out as well but after sunday Chelsea will beat Barca home and away if they play like that.

ah now, lets not be silly, Barca preformance wasn't that bad.

It was essentially 1-0, the 2-0 really flatters them.
The goal was very good sill by Torres, but Barca had countless chances they just didn't put em away.
It was about the same as Chelsea's preformance vs say man City if only Fowler had scored that header

Barcas performance was that bad simply because Atletico did nothing , they didnt defend well and only for Torroes they scored , but they looked like scoring the whole way tru the game.

Chelsea wont concede against them if they play like that as Chelsea can defend very well.

I hope Barca win but they faltering in league and if that form carries over to the Chelsea game , they will lose.

Chelsea have a strong defence but are lacking a quality striker, for this reason i think they will probably succumb to Barca. Still if their defense can hold then I see them being very dangerous from set pieces.

Liverpool seem to be resurgant at the moment, but not having morientes will make things harder for them, as his joining them seems to have made a big difference. Though I think they have an easier draw?

Arsenal have the quality attack to put chances away, but their defense is appalling atm and they are likely to concede goals.

United need Ruud back. Their defense is coping well but Heinze could use a bit more commitment from the other defenders in the team. Other than Van Nist, though I think they too lack a quality striker. However I believe they are facing Milan, and on the night will have difficulty dealing with players like Shivchenko.

United and Chelsea are the strongest teams in there atm overall, but have the toughest draws. As a result we could see Arsenal and Liverpool progress.

They have been changed from what they were originally. What he originally posted was exactly the kind of crap that started flamewars in here before and what the whole sponsorship process was put in place to stop. Now two sponsors have learnt the hard way that you really should check who you are sponsoring out properly and Fitzer if he comes back better discuss football intelligently here and leave the sh!te talk to the pub!

I think United are the strongest bet of all the English teams for this round, although Shevchenko appears to be fit again so Milan wont have to rely on a strikeforce of Tomasson and Crespo. IMO the only way United can lose this tie is by making individual defensive errors.

Leverkusen seem to be winning, and winning well, ever week recently in the Bundesliga - but that run came to an abrupt end at the weekend - losing 2-0 (AFAIR) v Bayern. Liverpool seem to be playing a bit better now, but will have no Moro and Gerrard is suspended for the first leg.

Arsenal v Bayern is similarly two evenly matched teams. Too close to call, but no reason why the two English teams can't progress.

I fancied Chelsea until Robben got injured. Defensively they can cope with Rdinho and Deco, and hit Barca on the break. Xabi though could well control midfield. Will be an intriguing tie. Hopefully Duffer stands out.

I hate to say it but I think I have to agree with you about Utd winning the CL this year if they can keep up their form of late.
Chelsea of the other 3 will get through and 50/50 on Ars & Liv making it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,599 ✭✭✭LizardKing

I have a feeling that this poll may be clouded by fans bias ... Realistically on current form Chelsea probably will go furthest , hard team to beat .. (still voted for Liverpool though :))

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,580 ✭✭✭uberwolf

and here the results of the uberwolf consideration.

neither Bayern Nor Milan have being setting the world on fire this season - but will provide tough opposition respectively.

I just don't fancy Arsenal in Europe any more so Bayern to edge it.

Utd are playing very well since there win over *sob sob* the pool - so they could well do it.

Chelsea without Robben are not teh same team - thye're abck to greinding out wins - and Barca have the attack to penetrate them.

Pool - will be back to playing one striker and being supported by two others. Can see biscan hamann and gerrard playing and this could be an interesting one, Biscan the man in the middle just to make the easy passes - I don't think Kewell is fit meaning Garcia continues to play.

Pool to go through all the same.

After that, the draw depends, I don't think Pool have the quality to progress further against the Barca's etc of this world. But Chelsea would do, I'm still expecting someone to expose Neville at some point as regards Utds chances.

Eh, shouldn't this thread realistically be called 'which is your favourite team out of these 4' because it doesn't seem to have much basis in reality considering more people believe Liverpool are more likely than Arsenal (and for that matter Utd are more likely than Chelsea) to be crowned champs in May?

I think Arsenal are a different team in Europe due to the style of European football, i.e. teams tend to defend quite deep and Arsenal find it very hard to break down teams that defend this way.
A prime example of this is the Utd. match. Arsenal were fantastic going forward early on when Utd. were pushing forward but as soon as Utd. went ahead they defended quite deeply (Silvestre getting sent off had a lot to do with it also!) and Arsenal found it nigh on impossible to get anything from the game from then on.

    B.

I think people are looking at this round by round.

LFC have the easiest draw for the coming round. I don't think anyone expects them to win but it is conceivable - though unlikely that they could be the only PL team through

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,921 ✭✭✭✭Pigman II

    That's a fair point uberwolf.

I still think Arsenal have the easiest pairing of the 4 english teams however.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,895 ✭✭✭SteM

I can see all of the English teams coming through this round I honestly can. Liverpool might struggle because I don't think they have quite the right squad for Europe just yet. I think United have second toughest draw but have a very good chance of getting through to the QFs the way their playing at the moment. Stating the obvious but finishing the home leg with a clean sheet and a positive result could be very important for United.
p.s. I'm going to the Ac Milan Utd game in the san siro hehehe

Lucky bugger. I was offered a ticket but just couldn't afford the trip this time around.
