At the risk of sounding like a complete div can somebody please explain to me how blinds work exactly... I've only played with them once and made the mistake of checking when I didn't have to at all... Embarrassing...

I'm sure somebody will point out a good site to you but basically
you have Small Blind and Big Blind which are "forced bets".
1st Player left of the dealer is the SB and next left is the BB.
The next person after the BB must do one of 3 things
    (a) call the BB bet
    (b) Raise the BB bet
    or (c) Fold.
All the rest of the players have to do the same until the SB.
He only has to match the BB wich is normally twice the SB.
So in a 10/20 Blinds, the SB only has to put up 10 as he has already put in 10.
He can of course raise or fold as well.
BB then can do 2 things
    (a) Check and the flop is dealt
    or (b) raise.
Then the flop happens and the betting starts (amount depends on the Blinds at the time).

And who does betting start with then? SB or BB or the person who raised?

Blinds are forced bets put in the pot by (usually two players) before the hand starts, just so there's some money at stake fromthe getgo.
The players to the left of the dealer (shown by dealer button in casino) is the Small blind, then the next player to his left is the Big blind.

Once the cards are dealt the player to the left of the big blind is first to act, then it goes around the table in sequence, until it reaches the small blind. He can then call the big blind and play as normal (or raise or fold of course).

If nobody has raised anywhere around the table (ie people have just called the amount of the big blind) then the big blind himself gets the "Option", he can raise or he can choose not to raise and check. So he sees the flop along with the other callers.

    Edit: me type not fast
