Don't know where else to put this, I know it's the poker forum and all but hey...

When you go to Fitz, do you just go with the intention of playing poker? Or do you play Blackjack and the like?

Tips on the other games at the Fitz?

    Blackjack is a killer :(

Have you any tips for it?

    Another question, you'll probably know...

The free game on Thursday night, is the prize a ticket for a bigger tournament or am I mistaken?

    Thanks.

The Thursday game is for the 270 end of month game afaik

Brag (Poker 3) is good crack, house has quite a chunky edge on it though. Usually the blackjack tables have idiots on them hitting 14 against a dealers 6 or sticking 14 against a dealers ace so I'd try to avoid them. If your going to play, read up on basic blackjack strategy to give yourself a fighting chance. The opening chapters of Wongs "Professional Blackjack" or Carsons "Blackjack for Blood" I'd reccomend.

    Ah right

So there's no money prize for the Thursday night game?

Apologies for sounding like a kid here but what are they all about?

How often do they take plac etc?

They're happening all the time, basically they're single table tourneys

A sit and go is a single table tournament which "goes" when 9 people sit down to play. Its usually a tenner a man and 10 play. The house takes a tenner and the remaining 90 is split 60:30 between first and second.

Sometimes if only 6 players can be found, they will agree to allow 4 more rebuys between the table to bump the prize pool. Alternatively they might suggest a freezeout where first place takes the lot.

    So DeV,

If I went down tonight, is it relatively easy to get invloved in one? I'm completely new to the place etc.

Sit and go's don't last long so? Providing that it's no limit??

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,806 ✭✭✭Lafortezza

You could sit down in a cash game. You ca sit down with €50, there could likely be a hold'em only cash game going on a thursday or friday (busy nights), or else you can have a go of the hold'em/omaha cash game, a bit more loose and gambling, just avoid the main table.

There doesn't seem to be many tables there, how does it cope with the freeroll on a Thursday night? Many show up for it?

Still confused as to how exactly I join in on one of the cash games, do I let someone know etc?

    Cheers.

There is a board you put your name down on,or just tell one of the staff what game you want to play.

As for room their are more poker tables upstairs so they have loads of room.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,806 ✭✭✭Lafortezza

There's space for about 9 tables upstairs in the Fitz, recently added. Loads of room.
Freeroll can attract 100+ on thursdays, not sure how many its been in recent weeks.

Cash games: Ask Luke or Sharon or whoever is on the poker desk if there's any seats free in the €50 game, they'll put you in, or tell you how long the wait is.
Once you get a seat you can buy chips from the dealer (after you sit down) or else get them from the cashier desk before you sit down.

    What's the €50 game? €50 a head??

Oh, and is Luke the guy with the distinguishable accent?

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,806 ✭✭✭Lafortezza

The €50 games is a cash game with blinds of €1 - €2 (for Hold'Em) where the minimum you can sit down with is €50.

Luke is the Poker room manager, loud funny guy with moustache.

    Ah, okay

I'll be staying away from the 50 euro games so :)

Your best bet is to head into a freeroll or better still play a few Sit&Gos they are the best and cheapest ways to learn

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,517 ✭✭✭✭Krusty_Clown

The Wizard of Odds covers strategies for a number of casino (and slot machine games, including Blackjack (European Blackjack), Carribean Stud, craps, Roulette, Three card poker (simillar to brag) etc..

The site also hosts a number of Java-based versions you can play around with.

The strategies provided are based on computer simulation, not 'get rich quick' strategies, which is refreshing. They make it very clear that the odds are against you and you will always lose in the long run.

Well blackjack is the only game where if played "right" the house doesn't have the advantage. They play i think 6 deck blackjack there so card counting is the way to go. There are some simple techniques out there. One main tip that I would give is never play a table with less than 3 people playing on it already. and also go when u've doubled up.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 97 ✭✭F Fiesta

    That link is pretty cool,

Just the small matter of learning that table off eh ;)

Actually, if I stick with a few of those rules I might tighten up my game a bit

  • Business & Finance Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 32,387 Mod ✭✭✭✭DeVore

No need to learn it off. As I understand it you can print it off and stick it under your chips. It wont make any difference, unless you card count you are still the wrong side of the odds (albeit it, closer to 50/50 then the drunk gambler next to you!)

Can you play in the sit and gos if you don't play the free roll?

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,806 ✭✭✭Lafortezza

Yes, freeroll starts at half 8 or so I think. But there'll be no sit and go's until people start getting knocked out later. Can't remember what time the Fitz opens and gets busy at on thursdays though, there's SNG's before the freeroll as well if there's bodies around.

Yes you can,but if you are there when you can enter the freeroll you may as well enter as its free and if you do good you should not need a rebuy or top up.

Or just head in and play a Sit & Go.
