(Possibly) dumb question: what accent uses "chan" for anything other than, say, describing singing in the past tense??? Or am I missing something?

Did you by any chance have reams of stuff learned off by heart for the LC?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,175 ✭✭✭angeldelight

Nope not really, all I had learned was about 20 phrases for essays, dates for stair na gaeilge and themes and stuff for stories/poems. Stuff like the oral I just practiced talking irish in general at home

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,286 ✭✭✭Gael

Ok. It just that some people gets great marks in Irish from being good at learning stuff off, but they're in big trouble if they encounter something they haven't prepared for.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,175 ✭✭✭angeldelight

Nope, I've just got a memory like a sieve! My irish teacher was brilliant, we weren't allowed talk english ever in her classroom for the 5 years I was in school

I was amazed to see I got 113/150 (75%). I obviously remember a lot more of the grammar rules than I thought, although I can't form a coherent sentence in the language. On the other hand, I can converse reasonably well in Italian, but have never learned it as such, so my score was 102/150 or 68%.
I fared considerably better in the languages I actually use, unsurprisinlgy - 87% in Dutch, 97% in French (I debate that one wrong answer! :D) and 100% in English.
